8th lutz #1 Posted June 8, 2006 http://www.gamespot.com/news/6152466.html is where a got it from. The Bill states " first if the "average person" "Would think" appeals to the minor's morbid interest in violence." Second, if it "depicts violence in a manner patently offensive to prevailing standards." Lastly, a game would only qualify if it "lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors." Violators could be fined between $100 and $2,000 and sentenced to up to 12 months in a state prison." I have to shake my head. Who in their right mind would want to pass a bill based an an extreamist. This is to vague in the terms. The words "average person" and "would think" is up to who's standards. The claim of literary, artistic, political or scientific value for minors far a game to qualify if it lack the thing mention is a joke. The claims would be used to an adults agenda for pushing views like political. Thinkfully the esa will be following suit if the Governor signs it. This caused by them linking games to violence painted by the media in that state. Blaming violence to games is not the reason for what has been happening. Violence has been a problem since day one I think and that is way before videogames.
MCHufnagel #2 Posted June 8, 2006 This bill, like every one before it in other states will be thrown out in court. These broad definition laws can't pass constitutional reasoning. Just like Jack(ass) Thompson.
rockman_x_2002 #3 Posted June 8, 2006 Well that's got to be about the most mindnumblingly dumb thing I've read all week. Excuse me while I go stick my head in a blender.
dwh #4 Posted June 9, 2006 You guys just don't understand these attorneys. They must word everything with broad definitions, so they can add to or make new "improved" laws later. How dare we try to make attorneys close their loopholes; they would be out of work! Signed, "a not so average person"
christianscott27 #5 Posted June 9, 2006 Damn dont they have anything better to do down in LA, like I dunno... fixing levees and rebuilding a city? When your state has more refugees than Haiti you might wanna knock off on the "values voter" crap for awhile and lead a recovery.

Room 34 #7 Posted June 9, 2006 When your state has more refugees than Haiti you might wanna knock off on the "values voter" crap for awhile and lead a recovery. But don't you get it? That requires two things: 1. Effort 2. Caring about your citizens
sega saturn x #8 Posted June 9, 2006 Second, if it "depicts violence in a manner patently offensive to prevailing standards." Now what "standard" would that be? Games already HAVE a standard it's called the ESRB!
SteveW #9 Posted June 9, 2006 Y'know, I was born there, and i've got some relatives there that I like to visit, but I really don't want to live in Louisiana. The people are stupid, and they're damn proud to be stupid. It's really aggravating to me. This is a state that has one of it's former Governors in prison. You can't expect much from the place. Cheese007 #12 Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) Something tells me that they only voted for the bill because if they didn't they would be trashed by watchdog sites and groups along with the media. "average person" and "would think" is up to who's standards. Probably Hillary Clinton's or Jack Thompson's. Edited June 9, 2006 by Cheese007
