Toucan #1 Posted June 8, 2006 Well, after going through the basement I came across a pair of prototype Atari 2600 Milton Bradley HD2000 Joysticks that I got from a guy who used to work for Milton Bradley. The guy designed the MBX joysticks for the TI-99/4A and I ended up buying his stash of items mainly for the TI-99/4A MBX black/red prototype joysticks that he had. As a bonus he included these with the deal. The MB HD2000 joystick eventually became the Space Age Joystick from what it seems. So these are prototype HD2000/Space Age Joysticks I guess. I have two of these and thought I would mention it on this board since I don't have a need for them and probably will try selling them here or on eBay in the future. Anyone have any inside stories behind these joysicks? I should have asked the guy back then but I only talked with him about the MBX sticks and I got the feeling he didn't want to be too pestered (since I bugged him like crazy about the MBX for the website!). Tempest #2 Posted June 8, 2006 Neat. Can you post some pictures? I never actually thought about it before, but the Space Age sticks do look like the MBX sticks... Tempest
Toucan #3 Posted June 8, 2006 (edited) Well, I guess it makes a lot of sense since MB was to make the Voice Commander for the Atari 2600 and 5200. So I guess having similar joysticks to that of the MBX would have been the logical choice. Probably once that Voice Commander deal fell through, the joysticks were marketed instead. Actually if you look at the MBX sticks in black/red they look even similar to the Space Age ones. I'll get pics of both up soon. Neat. Can you post some pictures? Toucan #4 Posted June 8, 2006 (edited) Here's the Pictures. Two of the HD2000/Space Age prototype joysticks and two of the prototype MBX joysticks. As you will see, the nameplates are the same shape it seems. You can compare the MBX sticks here really well with the Space Age sticks on Atariage: http://www.atariage.com/controller_page.ht...ControllerID=18. They are basically the same mold, just with some missing buttons and no rotating knob on the top. Screws are in the same places too.
