super_dos_man #1 Posted June 11, 2006 any cheats accept for warp zone and level negative one?
JagFan422 #2 Posted June 11, 2006 my favorite was when you got to bowser, and you MUST be Big to do this, run past him and DO NOT HIT THE AXE thing to make him fall, let him come after you, you have to time it perfect so that when you do jump to hit the axe you hit him and the axe at the same time. You will hear the sound of getting small but will stay big. The next mushroom you get will turn you small instead of big, and the fire flower you will have small, but everytime you shoot a fire ball you turn big for that split second, its pretty funny. MetalSlime23 #3 Posted June 11, 2006 What is level negative 1? I have never heard of that. How do you get there?

JagFan422 #5 Posted June 11, 2006 negative world is where you just swim over and over again, pointless but fun to show to your friends.
guitarmas #6 Posted June 11, 2006 negative world is where you just swim over and over again, pointless but fun to show to your friends. Yes but if you go to the 2nd pipe, you'll go to level 5.
JB #7 Posted June 12, 2006 And the only ACTUAL cheat code in the game is the continue code. Hold A and press start to resume in the first area of the world you died on. So if you die in 8-3 and continue, you'll be in 8-1.

Falls into the same category as warp zones, really. It's an earned bonus, not a cheat code.
2600Lives #10 Posted June 12, 2006 I always liked the infinite lives trick. Nothing cooler than getting several hundred lives and watching the numbers turn into strange symbols. Get too many lives, though, and it's game over...

JagFan422 #14 Posted June 12, 2006 i've played negative world tons of times and going through the pipes never did anything but take me to the beginning but it got harder through each pipe, but it was always swimming, nothing else.

I checked this out and it looks like it depends on who you ask . IGN here http://cheats.ign.com/ob2/068/006/006693.html says 99, but I found a few sites that say 300 and a few others that say 'infinite' which clearly is not true. Either way, if you need more than 99 lives, there is definitely trouble afoot.
JB #17 Posted June 13, 2006 I usually see 255. Which makes sense, as it's a 1-byte value. 256 rolls over and becomes 0. 0 lives is bad.
LocalH #18 Posted June 14, 2006 (edited) The threshold is 127, as the game uses signed arithmetic to handle lives. If you gain 127 lives, you will have no problems at all. If you gain 128 or more, you will be able to continue playing without problems until you A) die, or B) get enough extra lives to cause the counter to wrap around to 0. The game doesn't check to see if you're out of lives until after you've died, which means you can technically have 0 lives and be fine. Oh, and just for the record, the minus world is technically world 36. Edited June 14, 2006 by LocalH
JB #19 Posted June 14, 2006 The threshold is 127, as the game uses signed arithmetic to handle lives. If you gain 127 lives, you will have no problems at all. Ah. That also explains why it's usually "don't go over at all." If it was a 255 rollover, you'd just wind up with very few extra lives. But a 127 rollover leaves you REALLY deep in the hole.
