Favorit Classic Systems?

Recommended Posts

My main favorite has to be the NES. It's the whole reason I collect video games in the first place. My brother owned one, I own 3, and all his friends owned one when they were little. If anyone needs one just ask me and i'll keep an eye out. I found one for 15.00 but did't get it since I own enough of em.

But anyway, my second favorite system is Atari 2600 games and systems. I love thoes simple little games. And I LOVE phoenix.

My last and not least is Sega Genesis. This little system took the competition on back in it's day! It did't give up. And I can find games for this system ALOT easyer than other systems! Heck, I just picked up a new game yesterday!

So how bout you people?

NES sure does have fun titles, there is NO doubt.

Mega Man

Double Dribble

Super Mario Series

Excitebike

Mike Tyson's Punchout

Who can go wrong with games like that?

But for fun I still love:

Pitfall!

River Raid

Pac Man (it is unique, k?)

And the ones I've discovered recently, that I never played at all when I was young:

Artillery Duel

Pitfall 2

Phoenix (you bet!)

Enduro

Gravitar

You just can't compare NES to the Atari 2600, the games are so completely different.

You COULD potentially say that Donkey Kong Classics for NES looks a hell of alot better than either Donkey Kong Jr (pure barf), and Donkey Kong (fecal material)for the Atari 2600.

But I have Donkey Kong for the 2600 because it is on other platforms (collectibility). And Donkey Kong Jr is good for my pop to sit on, er, to see how great a game it was on 2600. So I still have yet to get Donkey Kong Jr., but I plan to.

Mine is the 2600, I've had one for 18 years?

I have never owned a NES, though I played with my friends NES alot in the 80's, but yesterday whilst popping in to a local junk/thrift store I came across a really cool site!

A very clean NES with several controllers. All for 6 dollars, Canadian! I have no games for it though, I guess it's time I go and get some! I hear there are a few games around for the NES... I know the NES is not rare by any standards, but for 6 bucks, that's a deal!

But wait thats not all, on the same shelf they had another little gem! A complete XEGS! With keyboard, carts, manuals, light gun, controllers! In MINT shape! All for 12 dollars, Canadian!

So now I can start collecting for that one too. Something to do this summer.....

So I guess my list will be modified as such:

1.2600

2. NES

3. XEGS

Otto the third, from Berserk and Frenzy?

Was there a third arcade game in the series with Evil Otto?

You had to ask..... in StarFox by Mythicon, a smiley face looks down over you as you play the game...what does it mean? Is it just a fluke that Mythicon would use a smiley face as a Practice Mode Icon? Is it really Practice Mode? I think not, I think we know who it is....he's watching us all, waiting....waiting for his time.....

I would say my favorite classic system *used* to be the Atari 7800, but lately I'm getting the most mileage out of my Vectrex, followed by the Atari Lynx.

It'll cost you a bit to score a Vectrex and a multicart, but I think it's worth it in the end, for an experience that you really can't get on an emulator.

I own a 2600 but it's broken. But I have a 7800 that I play the 2600 games on. I love that system.

NES's are getting harder to find now adays. With the recent increase in collectors it will become as hard to find as an Atari system.

The only reason I like the NES is because it's nostalgic for me. The NES brought me into gaming. However, out of the 1000 games made for the NES, slightly less than 10% are really all that good.

My favorite system is the 5200. The games remind me more of the arcade games than the 2600, but they still have that Atari console feel. I also love the pause feature and the console is one of the best looking ever. My cousin had a 2600 and a 5200 so I played on both as a kid. You need a Wico stick, but it's a great console (I say even the stock controller is better than the Intellivision disc and maybe the Colecovision knob). Also, the games look cool and were still well-made (I can't take the 7800 black and white carts and one page manuals.)

Here's my order: My favorite on top

Atari 5200

Apple 2 GS (I know it isn't a console, but I used to LOVE games like conan, Mean 18, summer games, and Hardball to name a few....someday I hope to get it again if I EVER have enough room)

NES

Playstation

Super Nintendo

Atari 2600

I don't know much about Nintendo Gamecube, but it sure does look just WAY WAY cool. Everytime I see it I am amazed by its beauty. I don't have one.

Same with the way the Odyssey2 and Colecovision LOOKS.

I'll bite.

1. Sega 32X -- it's just such a twisted idea

2. Atari 2600 -- Especially now I've got CCU

3. Sega Saturn -- Is it classic yet?

Then I move away from classic...

4. Dreamcast.

Does the Gameboy fit into this thread anywhere? I used to prefer portable gaming, and I've had a Lynx, but it was stolen. I've got a GameGear in storage somewhere, but I've got something like 6 Gameboys, mostly because I wanted the games but the person selling wouldn't separate.

I've got another 7 or so consoles around the place and a couple of old computer systems, like the C64 and Amiga, but they're just not as fun as the stuff I've mentioned above.

Ya know, even if I put the Atari 2600 on the bottom of my favorite list, I wanted to say that it has been the MOST rewarding system to collect for. I can't wait to get my hands on a supercharger, and that stella gets a new brain cd.

I don't mind the graphics and sounds at all on the Atari 2600. They don't have to be XBOX quality, they are fine the way they are. They have alot of energy. You can see that the programmers put their hearts into the making of some games. There are some crap ones of course, but some programmers had to work around the limitations of the hardware to try to bring gamers the best.

The Atari 5200 is pretty simple to collect for, I have all the components I need for the system. Two refurbished pefectly working default controllers, and two wico controllers with Y cables. I consider my collecting to be virtually done, except for getting THE HOLY GRAIL masterplay interface, that would complete it.

Of all the computers I've used I'd say that the Apple IIGS is my favorite...

Next would be the Commodore 64..

As for consoles...My favorite as of this moment is the NES... It was my first game console and I have the most games for it.

Genesis.

SNES... (I don't have any really good games for it yet.)

2600...(I have one game...astroblast....worked the first time I tried...I need more games....)

5200....(I really need to get those controllers rebuilt one of these days....staring at it is getting really old)

For handhelds I'll say my Game Boy...

I also have a Game Gear, but I never could get into the games I have for it.(I only have the first few I got for it because I when I got it I never really could take my hand helds around when they were new..my parents thought I would lose them....I thought I may as well not have it if I can't use it the way it's ment to be and never bothered to spend cash on the games)

I remember doing things on the Apple 2 GS, not gaming related, that were simply WONDERFUL.

For example...I used to sing in choir in high school, and I remember singing a song called: This Little Babe.

It isn't a cheesy tune like the name sounds, it really sounds awesome when all four voices go together.

Well using The Music Studio on The Apple 2 GS, I recreated all the voices on there, and edited it until it sounded just PERFECT. Man that sounded cool...

Another thing I enjoyed was taking my percussion parts from playing in a marching band, and plugging in the drum solos into my computer for playback.

I have Cakewalk now, but haven't done anything like what I used to when I was young. I really should.

Right now, I have my digital clavinova (digital piano) hooked into my computer, and I record myself playing the piano onto CDS. I've made a couple cds already for my family, and have cd labeling software to decorate them with.

Anything electronic, including video games, I am totally THERE.

Of the systems I do/have owned, it would probably shape up like this:

1.) Sega Genesis

2.) Atari 7800

3.) Atari 2600

4.) Magnavox Odyssey2

5.) NES

The NES would rank much higher if it weren't for "blink." If I ever see a top-loader in the wild I'll have to snatch it up.

That means you've got it on the easiest difficulty. Change it and he's gone.
