joeybastard #1 Posted June 12, 2006 How do I activate the magna beam on the GC version of Mega Man that's on the collection disc? It's been years since I played the first Mega Man but I can't rememeber how to activate that beam. I looked in the manual but it doesn't say how. I thought maybe there was some different button combo to use it on the GC controller.
figgler #4 Posted June 12, 2006 hmmm. I don't think there is. I know I beat this on the GCN too and don't remember having an issue. THis is a weird one to be sure. Good luck
Tempest #5 Posted June 12, 2006 Hold down the button longer. If you tap it won't activate. Basically the longer you hold it down the longer the platform it creates. Tempest

Tempest Thanks I'll try that tonight. I can't rememeber this being problem when I used to play this on my NES.
NightSprinter #7 Posted June 12, 2006 Yeah, hold down the button to extend the Magnet Beam to the platform length you need to cross. Also, it's located about halfway up the Elecman stage actually. You'll need to either have beaten GutsMan first, or return to ElecMan's stage after defeating ElecMan (the Thunder Beam can destroy some blocks). My question is, why is it that they had to take out the cheats in the GCN version (select button for MM1, free Rush Jet trick for MM3)?

I think the point is more along the lines that they aren't completely faithful recreations of the originals than anything else. I've never heard of the free Rush Jet trick before, though. Just the free Metal Blade trick in MM2.

It's more of a port of the PS/1 versions released in Japan with Pocket Station support disabled.

After playing thru 1 again, I'm used to it now. I'm happy for you that you were able to adapt, because I never could. I grew up playing the NES games with the NES pad, and it just feels bizarre to have the buttons reversed, especially considering how I hold the pad (the index finger on button B, the major finger on button A, so I can jump and shoot simultaneously any time I want). I sold MMAC not long after buying it because the reversed buttons were a real deal-breaker for me. I would have kept it if Capcom had made the buttons configurable. Just the free Metal Blade trick in MM2. The way the "Free Rush Jet" trick works in the original (and the PS2 version) is that you first have to defeat ShadowMan. When you get to another stage that has a Weapon Energy Capsule (like just after halfway through MagnetMan's level), pause the game and go to the second weapons menu. Select the Shadow Blade, then hit right on the D-Pad. If you do this right, you should be able to select an empty space. Unpause and Mega should be in his Rush colors (red and white). Collect the capsules and activate the "weapon". When done right pause the game again and the letters "RJ" should appear next to the Shadow Blade entry. Hope that helps. NightSprinter #16 Posted June 15, 2006 Not to my actual memory. You might wanna check at GameFAQs to see if there are any extra cheats like that for the original and PS2 versions. For now, I'm going to continue to feel proud that I managed to get through that damn laser section of QuickMan's stage without the Flash Stopper. JB #17 Posted June 15, 2006 For now, I'm going to continue to feel proud that I managed to get through that damn laser section of QuickMan's stage without the Flash Stopper. Quite justifiably, too. QuickMan's stage was hellish.
figgler #18 Posted June 26, 2006 For now, I'm going to continue to feel proud that I managed to get through that damn laser section of QuickMan's stage without the Flash Stopper. Very impressive. I've been convinced for years that this is impossible. I remember hating how by the time I got to Quick Man, the most effective weapon against him had to be drained. Except in the Wily stage of course
Great Hierophant #19 Posted June 26, 2006 In Mega Man II, Capcom really shouldn't have added an easy difficulty level. Mega Man II is a good challenge on the "difficult" level, which is the default of the Japanese original and equilavent to all other Mega Mans. Defeating all eight robot masters is difficult if you have restarted in Wily's lair and have no Energy Pods to refill your health meter (they are not saved.) figgler #20 Posted June 26, 2006 I think once you have the proper weapon-to-boss formula down, this is actually kind of easy. Several weapons can kill a robot master in 1 or 3 hits, like Metal Blades on Metal Man or Air Shooter on Crash Man and once you figure what to use when, killing these 8 guys in 3 lives is no sweat. You also get a big health power up after each one.
