8th lutz #1 Posted June 12, 2006 (edited) You found a Time Machine that has 10 ttips left. You a lot of money to burn for videogames and these trips must be for video game releated items. My first trip is to to go the a couple days before atari sends e.t Cartridges to a landfill and save as many as possible. My 2nd trip is go to 1984 and buy video games released in that year by Sept. 84 by the latest. My 3nd trip is go to atari, when Jack stops video game production. That way I can get as many prototypes of games that never were completed after the crash. My 4th trip would be for get the 7800 Gauntlet from the person who apparently reviewed the game. My 5th trip is to get a boxed Tegren tetris My 6th trip would be get all the 7800 games that were done but not released or were being worked on when the games cancelled to be like Electrocop according to a 5/14/93 memo. My 7th trip would be go March 1994 and buy 2 top loading nes systems. My 8th trip would be buy a sms in 98 when I saw one instead of waiting to spot a phantasy star in 99. My 9th trip would be go to a local video store that had euro sms games in 99. That store had games like bobble bouble and I would purchased them. My 10 trip would be to buy Vangaurd Bandits in 2000 for the ps 1. My honorable mention for a trip would go back in my somphmore in High School and get my computer science teachers books for programing and copy each page without her knowing it was gone and keep everything my teacher gave me. The teacher I had a book that had stuff like making sounds on a computer and text games like a student in the class I was in made a text game called civil on the appleIIe and that student also program. I had a difficult time in that class, but the books and pages could be useful for my brother. He had some progamming courses and and is good at using html while I had a difficult to create a rotating pyramid and half of my programs didn't work in that class. What are your 10 trips? supercat #2 Posted June 12, 2006 If not allowed to change history... I'd sneak into BBC Worldwide around 1970 and sneak in a duplicating run of all the old Doctor Who films. Then I'd sneak back to the early 1900's and make copies of George Melies' negatives (prior to his destruction thereof). Then I'd sneak around various gaming companies in the early 1980's to sneak some copies of their WIPs. Not just ROMs, but also source code. At some point I'd probably sneak back into the Renaissance and photograph Boticelli's paintings. Not sure what all else I'd do. Of course, if I could change history that would open up myriad other possibilities, but those would get more complicated.
NovaXpress #3 Posted June 12, 2006 I'd just go back and invest in the early days of Microsoft. Then I'd return to 2006 and buy any damn game that I wanted.
danwinslow #4 Posted June 12, 2006 The very first place I would go would be to 1 minute before I had it. Then I would...uh...dang.
Bruce Tomlin #5 Posted June 12, 2006 My 3nd trip is go to atari, when Jack stops video game production. That way I can get as many prototypes of games that never were completed after the crash.Better be quick. Dumpster diving was a really popular sport in Sunnyvale back in those days. I know someone who worked at a Federated store, filled up a cardboard box with a bunch of unsold Atari stuff to be returned, then years later found the exact same box that had never been opened. You just can't make this stuff up.My 4th trip would be for get the 7800 Gauntlet from the person who apparently reviewed the game. All of time and space would thank you. Anyhow, you don't really need the cartridge, just sneak in at night and dump it using a hacked 7800 and the laptop you brought along. But that would sure explain why nobody ever found it.My 7th trip would be go March 1994 and buy 2 top loading nes systems. My 8th trip would be buy a sms in 98 when I saw one instead of waiting to spot a phantasy star in 99. You really think small, don't you? I've got two top-loaders and four or five copies of PS1. Of course it would be easier if the time machine were bigger on the inside than the outside, then you could just load it up with crates of stuff to sell all onesie-twosie. Then again, you would probably find that there was some kind of monster about to destroy humanity back in 1984 Alamogordo and be so busy with your sonic screwdriver that you would have no chance to snag more than one or two ET carts. And they didn't just bury ET carts anyhow. Probably some Atari 1400XLs in there, etc. Oh yeah, and my 10th trip would be back to 2006. You would have been stuck in 2000. Duh. You wouldn't even be able to do much playing of the stock market since it would already be on the way down. Me, I'd go back and invest in that fruit company that Lt. Dan told Forrest Gump to buy. You'd have millions upon millions if you buy a bunch of microsoft stock right when they started.
sega saturn x #7 Posted June 13, 2006 (edited) I'd go back to the 60s and buy truckloads of first run comics. Come back sell them for insane sums of money and buy whatever I want. Edited June 16, 2006 by sega saturn x

candiru #10 Posted June 13, 2006 Yeah, like NovaXpress said, just buy some Microsoft stock and set yourself up with some serious cash. Then you could have some fun. You could take PS2s back to the launch date and screw over the scalpers. Make some weird-ass game hack, put it in a funky case and dump a few around the southern U.S. Personally kick Jack Tramiel in the nuts. Really, the possibilities for fun are endless. Don't forget about the future either. You might as well check that out too. 2084, here I come!
jbanes #11 Posted June 13, 2006 Personally kick Jack Tramiel in the nuts. What's stopping you from doing that without the time machine? Really, the possibilities for fun are endless. Don't forget about the future either. You might as well check that out too. 2084, here I come! I'd check out Google's stock in five years. If it really continues its climb, I'd go back and invest everything I can into it. Voila. Instant money, none of the deprecation through inflation! Wrathchild #12 Posted June 13, 2006 Go back to 1985 and hook up with Firebird to bring 'Elite' to the 8-bit Atari range
candiru #13 Posted June 13, 2006 Personally kick Jack Tramiel in the nuts. What's stopping you from doing that without the time machine? It's like training a dog. You've got to catch them in the act of behaving badly if you really want them to learn their lesson. "Let's shelve the 7800 for a couple years." **WHAP!** "Let's try to support 3 game systems at the same time." **WHAP!** This just occurred to me also, if you could prove to him that you traveled through time, just to kick him in the nuts....well, that's gotta be pretty demoralizing. Plus, he's all old now and it wouldn't be quite as sporting.
AussieAtari #14 Posted June 13, 2006 The MS stock buy is an example of great lateral thinking! I'd also go back about six years to when Game Traders and the like were almost giving "retro" consoles away with heaps of games. Cheaper than going back to the original release dates. And back to the mid-80's when I got out of selling video games, consoles and home computers and pretty much gave everything away (and there was HEAPS of stuff, a lot of it in prefect condition and rare now), all because I thought a 286 with 64Kb of memory, DOS, CGA and a 20MB HDD was IT - what was I thinking!!! Oh, and I'd go back 9 days and smack the bloke who sold me the fake memory stick in China (and kick myself for thinking "wow, what a bargain - D'oh!). I also totally agree with rescuing the Dr. Who tapes.

LocalH #16 Posted June 14, 2006 As well as going around to see beta copies of the most popular classic games, and the development of Crazy Otto), I'd also make a trip back to 1984 to play on the CBS game show Press Your Luck. =P
jbanes #17 Posted June 14, 2006 I'd also make a trip back to 1984 to play on the CBS game show Press Your Luck. =P Big money, big money, big money! On no! The new show is a WHAAAAAAAAMMMYYYY!!! Talk about just missing your opportunity. (We really need some Whammy emoticons to liven up the place. )
LocalH #18 Posted June 14, 2006 I would have given anything to play against Michael Larson, with the same knowledge that he had then.

You wouldn't even be able to do much playing of the stock market since it would already be on the way down Sell short I'm pretty sure you gotta have money for collateral to do any significant amount of short selling. You've got to have money to purchase stocks, as well. I suppose that shorting takes a bit more maintenance (your contract tends to be full of deadlines), but if you've got six years to kill on playing the market anyway... I would *so* short Webvan, then drop it in the summer of of 2001, just before they closed. Edit: Almost forgot the disclaimer. This is not financial advice. The AA user 'jbanes' cannot be held responsible for anyone who uses his advice to travel back in time and play the stock market. Thanks to quantum physics, historical returns may not be indicitive of past performance. Edited June 15, 2006 by jbanes
