+RangerG #1 Posted June 9, 2002 I have been collecting now for almost two years. I collect for all pre-NES systems. I wanted to see if other people find stuff for the systems like I do. For instance, how often do you find games for Atari 2600 vs. Colecovision vs. Intellivsion, etc. My finds seem to follow this pattern: 1) Atari 2600 carts are easily the most common to find (I have found more than all the other types combined). 2) Atari 5200 carts are what I have next found the most of in my searches. 3) Odyssey2 carts are third. 4) Intellivision carts are fourth. 5) Colecovision carts are last (I have only found 5 carts in two years). I have never found a cart for an Emerson, Vectrex, Fairfield, etc.
Ze_ro #2 Posted June 12, 2002 Wow, that's odd... I find almost none of the stuff on your list. I've never found a single piece of 5200 or Odyssey2 history in the wild at all. From the stuff on your list, I'd say Atari stuff shows up the most often, followed by Intellivision and then ColecoVision. However, if you allow me to include post-NES stuff, then here's my top 5 list: 1. Super Mario/Duck Hunt 2. Genesis Sports Games 3. Old PC software 4. NES games OTHER than SMB/DH 5. Genesis non-sports games I come across SNES and SMS stuff once in a while, but nowhere near as often as any of what I listed. I also can't even find Combat as often as I find Genesis sports games. Seriously. --Zero
Atari Master #3 Posted June 12, 2002 Over here it's. NES carts: Most plentfull around here. You can find these every once in a while. 2600: The carts are hard as hell to find but they pop up in small numbers like 4 at a time. After that games don't pop up! Sorry! +RangerG #4 Posted June 12, 2002 I should have made it clearer that I was only talking about pre-NES stuff. The most common stuff I find are easily NES and Genesis stuff, but of the pre-Nes stuff it is like my list. I am starting to collect a few NES carts because otherwise I often come home with nothing from a search. I still thought it would be easier to find Colecovision carts, but even Donkey Kong would be a treat for me to find.
lonesome_pa #5 Posted June 12, 2002 Atari games are slim to none around me. I'm lucky to find a couple in a period of a couple weeks (other than Combat or Pac-man that is). Once, and only once, I did find an Atari 7800 game, Food Fight. If your finding so many Atari 2600 games, how about sending a few this way.

The situation is almost identical where I live. There appears to be a near-limitless supply of NES, SNES and Genesis carts in every major software store (ie: EB, Babbages/gamestop/funcoland, etc). Atari games of any sort are difficult to find and even the most remote pawn shops and thrift stores rarely have any.
ubersaurus #7 Posted June 12, 2002 Suffice to say, I think the supply of atari games has raeched the point where its almost all in the hands of collectors or ebay peddlers.

They have no Babbages here so thats why my collecion is still so small. I was hopeing there would be an Electronics Boique here but there isn't one in all of Louisiana! Paul Slocum #9 Posted June 13, 2002 I find: 1) Atari 2600 most often, pretty much every time I go thrifting. 2) Intellivision pretty often 3) 5200 sometimes, every few times I go out 4) TI 99/4a about as much as 5200 5) Odyssey once in a while 6) VIC-20 about as much as Odyssey 7) 7800 once every few months Colecovision once every few months 9) Other 8-bit computer carts on rare occasions 10) One time I found an Emerson Arcadia cart I don't collect NES or Genesis, but I see them everywhere. -Paul
Giga-Power #10 Posted June 14, 2002 Where I'm from it's not really easy to find anything on that list, but it can be done. 2600 is fairly easy, but anything obscure like the Intellivision is hard to come by.
jhd #11 Posted June 15, 2002 However, if you allow me to include post-NES stuff, then here's my top 5 list: 1. Super Mario/Duck Hunt 2. Genesis Sports Games 3. Old PC software 4. NES games OTHER than SMB/DH 5. Genesis non-sports games That's basically the same situation here too. One time, my usual Thrift Store haunt had box of Intellivision carts (and 1 2600 Ms. Pac Man). More recently, there were two Vic 20 carts. Both times, the stuff was sold by the following week. I never encounter any classic hardware, other than the occasional Vic 20 and C=64. NES consoles are common as dirt; Genesis are only slightly less common. Old PC hardware (especially keyboards and CGA monitors) is slightly more common than dirt.
