PAYPAL now charging to complete desputes?

Hey All,

I just filed a complaint with Paypal over a bunk deal I had and now instead of them normally dealing with it, now they want $25 dollars from the refund as a "processing fee"!! Anyone else noticed this? You make a "despute" and then if the seller won't go along with it you have to raise your despute to "claim status" before Paypal will help you AKA give us $25 USD or your screwed!! What if your purchase was only for like $10 bucks? Go $15 in the hole to get $10 back? Those numbers and this whole $25 dollar charge are just outragous.

Ya and their new process has me sitting here with a R9 I just bought that showed up and it's a ColecoVision cartridge not a 2600 cartridge as was in the auction description. So I buy a 2600 R9 and a R?? shows up for the ColecoVision. Looks like I'm pretty much screwed thanks to a retarded seller that can't tell the difference between a 2600 game and a colecovision game but yet the auction says "it was tested and working". I'm just trying to figure out how the hell he tested a ColecoVision cart on a 2600??

B.S. like this is one of the reasons I try to use my credit card for any paypal purchases. Who gives a crap on what Paypal's policy is when you can file a complaint with the CC company. Its kind of funny to watch Paypal wine about it too.

I think Google is missing a chance of a lifetime -- if they opened auction and payment sites, I think they would kick eBay right in the crown jewels.

I would talk to my CC company. They will quickly help you out when they hear chargeback. Make sure you keep all relevant correspondence.

Does the cart say for Coleco or Atari?

I talked with Paypal and they said that is fee is for Credit Card transactions only, and it's to handle the fee the credit card companies charge. There is no fee for bank account transactions or ones using paypal funds.

LOL. So you can't pass on the fees that PayPal charges you to the buyer, but they will charge you the fees that the CC companies charge them...

Paypal must like chargebacks then because if I encounter the situation where Paypal wants to charge me $25 to file a claim because I paid with a CC, then I'll just skip them all together and go right to the CC and get the whole amount back, and that way, PP gets charged the fee and I save $25.

I must be missing something because it really seems like they are screwing themselves with that move.

Man, PayPal gets more and more lame.

Not long now before Google launches GBuy!!

Less than 2 weeks. See below.

Google's GBuy Could Be 'Revolutionary'

Maya Roney, 06.09.06

RBC Capital Markets maintained an "outperform" rating on Google in light of the impending launch of the company's online payment system, currently known as "GBuy."

Consumers using GBuy, which is set for release on June 28, will be taken off the merchant's site to complete the payment. This will enable Google to capture e-commerce transaction data, driving more precise targeting in future searches.

"If harnessed, the precision of this targeting could be revolutionary," wrote RBC analyst Jordan Rohan in a report Friday.

On its core search results pages, Google will designate each merchant accepting GBuy as a "trusted GBuy merchant." If consumers view this as a mark of safety and security, Rohan believes this should increase click-through rate.

The analyst expects some resistance from merchants who will fear that Google will use the transaction data to charge them more for sponsored links in the future. Google's bid rank algorithm is influenced by click-through rate, and would, therefore, favor GBuy merchants, he said.

GBuy looks to be a direct competitor to PayPal's "off-eBay" initiative, which is still early in its development, Rohan added. During the beta phase, Google will not charge merchants for its payment service. After some period, the analyst believes Google will charge 1.5% to 2%, slightly below that of PayPal.

One other thing. Bidpay.com is expected to be back sometime this summer. PayPal is about to have some additional competition!

Looks like it's already open for business:

Will be interesting to see if eBay will allow BidPay and GBuy payments or if they'll try to force people to use PayPal.

Al,

Thanks for pointing that out. I checked a few days ago and Bidpay wasn't open yet. I have been getting a lot of interest in my auctions from International buyers. If Bidpay is back in business I will probably open more of my auctions to more buyers.

The biggest problems competitors to PayPal will have is momentum. Google will have a good shot at competing with PayPal, but I don't see BidPay doing quite as well. However, it's nice to have viable options and PayPal sure as hell needs some competition. Frankly, I'm surprised the US Government hasn't stepped in yet to regulate them, considering how much cash must fliow through PayPal every year.

Would that not fall under some type of monopolization rules if they didn't allow Bid\Gpay or are they clear of that do to being a private owned company even though they are actually just a pass threw for millions of individual merchants?

I'm not sure. But if eBay does try to block GBuy (if indeed GBuy turns out to be a competitor to PayPal) and they are not legally entitled to do so, I would not be surprised to see a court battle. Although eBay does a ton of advertising on Google, so I'm not sure they'd want to jeopardize

that. At least until Google comes up with their own auction site (hey, I can dream..)

This reminds me of when Paypal was only going to allow use of their site for internet pornography sales only if the items were sold on EBAY. It triggered a lawsuit from a publicly traded company. The lawsuit was dropped after Paypal gave in. Somehow I can't see EBAY getting away with not allowing the GBuy or Bidpay.

I'm dying for google's payment service- or any service with the clout to encourage widespread adoption. I'll leap as soon as possible.

I had my first problems with paypal this month- and paypal is TOTALLY useless when you have a problem. TOTALLY.

This policy has been in effect since the Buyer Protection Plan was first started. I have had several claims through Paypal and no problems. The $25 fee only applies if Paypal is unable to recover funds from the sellers account on a valid claim, and the refund is then processed through the Buyer Protection Plan. The Buyer Protection Plan does not pay on any claims less than $25. If it's less than that then you are out of luck but Paypal still can freeze the seller's account until it's settled. None of my claims had to be processed through Buyer Protection. In all of them either the seller refunded me after their account was frozen or Paypal yanked it out themselves, so I was not charged any fees. You don't have to pay any fees upfront to file a claim. Once you elevate it to a claim then they freeze the sellers account for the amount in dispute. You have to do that within 20 days of filing the dispute so don't delay if you get no satisfaction from the seller. Paypal requires that you communicate with the seller on their form so they can evaluate the responses and determine the validity of the claim. Hope this helps to clarify.
