jeff_a #1 Posted June 18, 2006 I think I remember a couple years ago there was a big thread where someone found secret writing on some pitfall artwork. Am I crazy, or did this really happen? The thread was huge and there were scans of the code and writing and stuff.
moycon #2 Posted June 19, 2006 I'm thinking that was a contest.

Room 34 #7 Posted June 19, 2006 The hidden messages were in a map created by former AtariAge regular "Pitfall Harry." I was the one who stumbled upon them... but I only ended up coming in 3rd in his contest. Here's a thread... http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9741 There was another thread wherein those of us who were participating in the contest discussed the clues in excruciating detail, but I'm having trouble finding it. G.Whiz #8 Posted June 19, 2006 If you play Pitfall backwards, you hear the voice of Satan. My church group told me about it. Got the MP3 download of the Satanic Bible the other day. I looped it through my mixing software and played it backwards, just to see what would happen. It was really eerie -- some guy in this Ozzy voice was chanting "Jesus loves you. Jesus loves you." But one thing is for sure, playing Pitfall backwards is a hell of a lot easier than having to jump over those damned logs... ~G

supercat #18 Posted July 1, 2006 Sorry to burst your bubble, but someone already beat you to it. Yeah, but while Booth's assassination of Lincoln was successful, the rest of his plan wasn't. Vice-President Andrew Johnson and IIRC Secretary of the Interior William Seward were also supposed to be assassinated. The man who was supposed to kill Johnson chickened out (but was hanged nonetheless). The man who was supposed to kill Seward got in a very bloody mele with Seward's kin; Seward survived, albeit barely. In his diary, Booth noted his disgust at the brutality of Seward's assassin. shadow460 #25 Posted July 3, 2006 How do you play Pitfall backwards? With a mirror? No No No,I mean backwards in which it can play the sounds backward. Flip it over and shove the label end in the 2600. I tried that, and I really did hear a horrifying voice! I didn't sleep for a week! This was easier in Pitfall II. There was a Playaround version of that game, but only one end was labeled. If you plug the unlabeled end into a second run 7800, and hook that up to a hitachi VCR from 1989, you'll hear even more scary voices. (end of lies)
