rockfistus #1 Posted June 21, 2006 I picked up the 7800 version about 6 months ago and I love it, I actually converted the NES pad to 7800 for this game. I like the way the game is hacked together, and I was surprised that the ladders actually work...nice, The only thing that bugs me is the music loop that keeps repeating over and over and over and over and over and (Put gun in mouth, pull trigger.) The bat looks like a freakin cucumber so it's that much funner too beat the hell out of thugs with. Nothing like bringing justice to the streets vigilante style with a cucumber. The game plays great though, it's pretty rough but now that I've got it figured out I can pretty much play through without dying. It was worth picking up. Shawn #2 Posted June 21, 2006 Glad your enjoying Double Dragon on the 7800. I have it also and despite what alot of others seem to think I find it to be one of the better 7800 titles IMO.

I think it's fun too. Yeah, flawed as hell. Yeah, I think it could have been better. At the end of the day though, it passed a critical test in that I found it fun and kept playing it. Trip_Cannon #4 Posted June 22, 2006 True, when it first came out for the 7800, there really wasn't anything else out there like it.
Gregory DG #5 Posted June 22, 2006 I've always kinda liked the 7800 version. It's not as fluid as the NES version (nor as pretty) but it has some of the best graphics on the 7800. Plus I can beat it without getting hit just by doing that back kick thing.

Lauren Tyler #7 Posted June 22, 2006 Once you've figured out how to handle each baddy, it's pretty straightforward. I've made it to the third mission at least once.

Plus I can beat it without getting hit just by doing that back kick thing. When it first came out, I thought so ... especially the final level in the game. The problem I always had was the graphics were inconsistent in quality. Some were very good (like the last level) and some were disappointing (the first). It was the games that came out later that (I felt) ate Double Dragon's graphics for lunch. When ALIEN BRIGADE hit the market, it was "game over" in my eyes for DD in that department. It made those "Best Ever Graphics for the Atari" claims in Activisions advertising look ridiculous.

The_Laird #11 Posted June 22, 2006 The music dosn't loop there is more than one tune too, in fact its the best music i've ever heard out of the Tia. IMHO its far better than that horrible flickering 1-player mess that is the NES version (in every way!)
DracIsBack #12 Posted June 22, 2006 The music dosn't loop there is more than one tune too, in fact its the best music i've ever heard out of the Tia. IMHO its far better than that horrible flickering 1-player mess that is the NES version (in every way!) I thought they did a decent job replicating the sound on competitive systems with the limits of the sound hardware ... espcially the music at the end levels. I still think CALIFORNIA GAMES on the 2600 is a great sounding game for the TIA.
rockfistus #13 Posted July 13, 2006 Plus I can beat it without getting hit just by doing that back kick thing. Yup, That's the way man I like it better than the NES version just cause it's so quirky....Atari stylee. Even though the music loop makes me want to stick a screwdriver right through my head. The Boss music was well done though.
jpfalcon2003 #14 Posted July 13, 2006 Great game for the 7800 indeed. 2600 version is great for the 2600 too, but it's just so damn hard. I find the NES version to be the easiest.

rockfistus #16 Posted July 14, 2006 Didn't know Double Dragon came out on the 7800... *Hulk Hogan Voice* It did brother. And check it out now. It's cool man...The only thing that bothers me about it is the same thing that bothers me about every 7800 game....they used the same god damn sound chip as the 2600......way to go Atari. Classic Pac #17 Posted July 14, 2006 Lets not forget there are 3 well known bugs in this games 1 walking on water bug. You can simply jump kick your way between the bridge and the water in act 2 2 walking into the sky bug. Mid way through act 2 after you completed the mid level batlle sometimes (I admit it doesn't happen the often you can push up on the jooystick and walk up in to the sky. 3 Girl is hugging an invisible man bug. Through a combination of pushing up on the joystick at the right time and fire button presses the woman you came to rescue will show her affections on an invisible man. Noted, though I'm not sure these really do much to impact the enjoyment of the game. 1. Helps you get around a tough spot. To me, it's a neat discovery, kinda like the bug that sets off all the points in the NES version. 2. I've never seen that -- how do you activiate. 3. By thenm you've beaten it. There's also the wierdness bug-thing one level 1, once you reach the end, if you jump kick towards the last 1/3 of the screen on the right once the level stops scrolling, the dude jumps faster and farther for no good reason You can do it jumping right or left as long as you're in that small area. rockfistus #22 Posted July 25, 2006 D'oh! I wish I had this game! Anyone have some screenshots so I can at least see what it looks like? Just type this into Google: "Double Dragon" "Atari 7800", then click the Images Tab and some screenshots should show up.
