Capcom Classics Mini Mix

Recommended Posts

Just read about this in Nintendo Power and it's looking to be one of the last must haves in the GBA library. Apparently it's set to include NES versions of Bionic Commando, Strider and Mighty Final Fight in their regular aspect ratios or widescreened to fit the GBA. All 3 are solid games that I've loved over the years. Bionic Commando of course is a classic heralded by all and Strider is solid and awesome despite the poor translations and the fact that it's nothing like the arcade game.

Mighty Final Fight especially I think is a great addition for most, as it's a fun little beat em up that's rare enough most NES gamers don't have it.

Now if someone at Capcom would decide to finally release that GBA Mega Man collection we'd be almost set

Funny how bad the GBC version of Bionic Commando was.... kept freezing and losing saved games and what not.

The GB port of Bionic Command was VERY solid though... except they dropped the prelude/postlude and got a little anime-ish in the art.

If it's 20$ I would get it for mighty final fight alone.

For $20 you could get a small GBA flash card and fit these three NES games along with a lot more stuff.

NES versions, meh I say. Meh.

Is this similar to the Capcom Classics collection for the PSP? I do have a PSP but I'd like to see it made for the DS, since it appears I'll be getting more use out of it. :)

I'll leave the flash card finding to you and Google. The smallest card on the market would be enough to run a hugh bunch of games. Then, you'd want to put PocketNES on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PocketNES

Not really equivalent. The GBA version is just 3 NES ports.

The PSP disc has 20 arcade games ported/emulated by Digital Eclipse, including one of my favorites, Speed Rumbler. I'm thinking of picking this one up.

1941: Counter Attack

Avengers

Bionic Commando

Black Tiger

Block Block

Captain Commando

Final Fight

Forgotten Worlds

Last Duel

Legendary Wings

Magic Sword

Mega Twins

Quiz And Dragons

Section Z

Side Arms: Hyper Dyne

The Speed Rumbler

Street Fighter

Strider

Three Wonders

Varth

Thanks for the additional information, the PSP version sounds great. Maybe they'll be inspired to port it too the DS?

I got the Capcom Classics Collection Remixed disc for the PSP a few months ago. It's truly an arcade in your pocket. The emulation is flawless, and there are lots of options for screen size, including original resolution, stretched to fit (but retaining 4:3 aspect ratio), and full widescreen stretch (16:9). The games that originally used a vertically-oriented screen in the arcade can be played in either vertical or horizontal orientations. Many of the games on the discs were games I never played before, but that's part of the charm of the package--I got to experience these games for the first time, and could truly appreciate them without having a predisposition to nostalgia.

Although a DS version hasn't been announced, I have doubts about how well it would turn out. All of these games ran at higher screen resolution than the DS is capable of reproducing, so you'd get squashed graphics and/or dropped lines of resolution as a result. The vertical games in particular would suffer horribly. If you're a fan of these games, I would certainly recommend getting this collection for PSP, over waiting for a DS version that may or may not ever come out and could never match up in quality anyway.

I'm still waiting for a classics collection that actually uses the ds features. Take pac man for example, have the game on top and put an arcade stick on the bottom screen and control it that way.

I'd like to see DS ports of Nintendo's dual-screen arcade titles: Punch Out, Super Punch Out, Arm Wrestling. The DS is really the first system that could do justice to 'em.

That is a great point!

I hadn't heard about Arm Wrestling...at first I thought it was a specialty hardware game but looks like it's a button tapper. Cool.

I picked this up today. It's wickd awesome. I wasn't a huge fan of all these shooters and beat-em-ups in the arcade, so it's fun to discover them for pretty much the first time. The only ones I put any time into back in the day were Speed Rumbler and Strider.

That sounds horrible, how would that do anything other than make Pac-Man a nightmare to control?

Capcom Classics Mini Mix has been out now for a week or so if anyone is interested.

The ports of all 3 NES games look to be very well done. This is good or bad depending on how you see it. The conversions are so good, no one bothered to correct the slow down or choppy glitches in Strider for instance.

My only major complaint is no bells or whistles on any level. No "special features" like even release dates or a brief text history of the game, and worse, no game save. Bionic Commando would sure be good when portable and save-able. The game select menu is kinda cool, but barely. You select the games by choosing the appropriate NES cart (even though the labels aren't exact).

Whatever. For the $24 I spent on it, I got exactly what I thought - 3 good NES games I can play on the subway. I don't feel like I got ripped off, however it would have been real nice to get something more package. Anything more really. :|

I'd be interested in knowing if this game uses PocketNES as the emulator, like the Tecmo release did.

What Tecmo release?

Yeah, I haven't heard of a Tecmo GBA collection. Do you mean Technos? I know the Atlus published Kunio collections use PocketNES. Hudson and Jaleco also made GBA collections with NES games.

Sorry, brain fart. I meant Jaleco.

It uses PocketNes, and apparently it has trouble running Strider from reports I've read (Slowdown issues in addition to what was already in the game on a actual NES).

To be fair, Strider has a lot of trouble period. I love the game, don't get me wrong, but it's always been real glitchy with twitchy graphics and don't forget those famous Capcom "transrations!"

Let's see. On the GBA you can get 3 really poor NES "adaptations" of great arcade games for $20. Or you can get the original arcade games in full emulation and higher resolution along with 17 other games on the PSP for $30.

It's that awesome price advantage the DS offers at work once again!
