Gabriel #1 Posted June 22, 2006 Anyone else guardedly optimistic about the upcoming slew of Star Trek games? If Tactical Assault stays close to the formula of being a portable Star Fleet Command, then I think it will be mega cool. And Star Trek Legacy has some very pretty starship screenshots that I've been drooling over (I love Star Trek starship designs, particularly those styled like the classic movies) Even Shattered Universe was OK. It's nothing stellar, but it's fun in short bursts.
Gregory DG #2 Posted June 22, 2006 I'm excited at the DS game coming out. I hope it's good! As for the other ones... Are there going to be PC versions? Otherwise, I don't care since I my most modern console is the Dreamcast.
SomeGuyWithDSL #3 Posted June 22, 2006 I am absolutely looking forward to the DS game, with its touchscreen LCARS sort of interface. I imagine that if the developers handle it correctly, it could be the best Star Trek "bridge simulator" type of game ever. Also interesting as a fan, though, is Legacy (Xbox 360 version for me) with its journey through the timeline. More potential as a story than as a genre-advancing title, I think. Flojomojo #4 Posted June 22, 2006 I want both of the uppcoming Star Trek games, even if I really only have time for one. The handheld tactics game would probably be the better value, but mmmmmm.... eye candy .... So the Shattered Universe wasn't that bad? I should have grabbed it when I saw it cheap in Blockbuster a while back. Doh!
SteveW #5 Posted June 23, 2006 I loved Shattered Universe, but make no mistake, it's hard. The difficulty levels aren't all that balanced between levels. You have a fairly easy level to complete, then you end up going against 4 Constellation class battecruisers and a slew of fighters. Then, when you've finally destroyed all the starships and fighters and you're about to end the level, an Orion capital ship warps in and makes the level that much harder. It's a nightmarishly hard level that's totally out of balance with most of the other levels. The other really hard level is when you have to stop the Planet Killer and the starships guiding it. One thing that kept me playing Shattered Universe was it's incredible immersive quality. The game plays like episodes of a long lost Star Trek spin-off starring George Takei's Captain Sulu and the Excelsior. And I happen to like three dimensional space shooters didn't hurt at all. The difficulty on some of the levels is pretty hard the first time you play them, though. Stick with it, and it's a rewarding game.
