Inky #1 Posted June 24, 2006 I had Indy 500 back "in the day", but time and two parental divorces, coupled with moving quite frequently decimated my 2600 collection. Over time, I re-assembled most of my games, through eBay, local gaming stores, as well as acutally finding some of my old stuffb but one I never got around to getting again was Indy 500. That is, until the Midwest Gaming Classic. Holy cow, this game is hella more fun than I remember it being! Even playing against my 3 year old (who I let win ) Its too bad Atari didn't devise other uses for the adored Driving controller. That thing is pure sweetness! For those who don't have Indy 500, Get it today!
shadow460 #2 Posted June 24, 2006 It's good for a few minutes of meduim paced gaming. The drawback is that your Driving Controller isn't going to be used for whatever you play next. Suggestion: If you get married again, have your Atari collection covered by a prenup. I plan on doing that myself, expecially with the way prices have changed on 2600 items. Another downside to Indy is how difficult it seems to be to get the DC. The cart is fairly common around here, but Driving controllers are a pain to find. Otherwise, it is a good game, and a decent forerunner of Championship Sprint.
Rob Mitchell #3 Posted June 24, 2006 Holy cow, this game is hella more fun than I remember it being! Best fun are the tag game or get the dot game against a formidable foe! Great fun! Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA

Inky #5 Posted June 24, 2006 The divorce refrence was about my dad, not me. He got divorced twice, and most of my atari stuff got lost in the shuffle.

I plan on doing that myself, expecially with the way prices have changed on 2600 items. This seems a bit out of the blue here. ..Al Especially since prices on 2600 have been dropping in the last year or two from what I've seen. Both H.E.R.O. and Star Wars:The Arcade Game were sold at the 2006 Cinciclassic for much less than I paid a few years ago. Even the top rarities like Quadrun and Q*Bert's Cubes seem to be going for less than they did three or four years ago. But I'm not in the market for 2600 items every day, so maybe someone who is can chime in.
Dauber #7 Posted June 25, 2006 Another downside to Indy is how difficult it seems to be to get the DC. The cart is fairly common around here, but Driving controllers are a pain to find. [sorry if I'm crossing into territory I shouldn't, Inky, but...] I seem to remember that within minutes of arriving at the Midwest Gaming Classic, Inky found the aforementioned Indy 500 cart -- complete with driving controller -- for pretty cheap. If you know where to look, it's not hard to find. During one of my eBay fits in the past coupla weeks, I won at least one auction that included Indy 500, but no driving controller. I found one for a few bucks within minutes -- don't remember whether it was eBay or Froogle, though; the latter being grossly underused, as far as I'm concerned -- I've gotten a ton of good stuff (not Atari-related) for cheap thanks to Froogle searches... Inky #8 Posted June 25, 2006 Yup. It was $10 for the cart and controllers. NO box or instructions, but I just throw those away, because I collect Atari stuff to play it.
+Omegamatrix #9 Posted June 25, 2006 Indy 500 is hours of fun! It's good rediscovering gems like that eh, Inky?
