super_dos_man #1 Posted June 27, 2006 do you have to pay for service? does it come with a special modem just for the system? wtf?
Famicoman #2 Posted June 28, 2006 You have to pay $50 a year. No special modem is needed. It connects regularly through a Broadband modem. Everything on the Xbox is pre=configured. It will work right out of the box. Are you talking about the XBOX, or the 360?
moycon #3 Posted June 28, 2006 If you have a DSL Connection at home you can tap your 360 into you can buy Xbox Live cards and use them to activate a Live account. It's not really a set $$$ since you can get them off eBay for various pricing plus they sell kits. I bought a few of the kits they are offering. Altho the $10-$20 rebate coupons off new 360 game purchases they included will end this month so the deal isn't as good as it was. You still get a headset, a free Arcade game (Billiards for the 12 month kit, Joust for the 3 month kit) You get 200 Microsoft points for the market ..... they were also giving rebate coupons for new game purchases. Wont be any good now I dont think. I got one of the 12 months kits off eBay for like $45.00 So I figure the 12 months LIVE was free and I was just paying for all the other stuff. Shannon #4 Posted June 28, 2006 Well if current rumours going around are true I might have to say bye bye to xbox-live. Not that I ever really used it.

super_dos_man #6 Posted June 28, 2006 you have to pay for the 360 service?
Gabriel #7 Posted June 28, 2006 you have to pay for the 360 service? Yep. Although, there are two levels. You can be a Silver member, which entitles you to download dashboard updates (which were quite frequent when I bothered keeping my 360 hooked up), and you can download the pay-per-download stuff. As a silver member you cannot actually play games on Live. Being a Silver Member is free. As a Gold member you get everything else. Being a Gold Member costs money. super_dos_man #8 Posted June 28, 2006 ok then I'm definitley not getting a 360. isn't 400 dollars enough to fill the greed of microsoft?
Red 5 #9 Posted June 28, 2006 It's only $50 a year. About $4 a month. I play online with my friends almost every night. The demo downloads, game previews and movie trailers are included in the price. Updates (patches) for games like Oblivion and updates to the dashboard are included. If you buy tickets to a ball game the hot dogs and beer aren't included in the ticket price. Popcorn at the movies isn't free either. However, not having those items means you aren't getting the whole experience. I love Xbox Live. I love the Xbox Arcade. I love playing online. It is worth more than my $.07 a day (to me).
liveinabin #10 Posted June 28, 2006 It IS astonishingly good. It's a heck of a lot more than 'take game online, find players, play'. Worth the money, definitely.
super_dos_man #11 Posted June 28, 2006 alright I'll pick up ann xbox 1 and see what I can do. (what is a reasonable price for one?)
Famicoman #12 Posted June 28, 2006 An XBOX? My friends are selling them for about $80. If you get one through a game store, expect higher. But be sure there is some sort of warranty. I think refurbs from EB have 90 days or somehing. I've seen far to many XBOXs stop reading discs. Mostly with a Thompson drive. If you were to buy certain XBOX live enabled games, you might also get a 2 months free card with the game. After that, it charges to a credit card. You can also get a $60 XBL kit from retail stores of online. You get a 12 month card, a game, and a microphone (important). I play everyday on Halo 2 and its great when you have a friend come over and you both play. i recomend to anyone. Live really ups the replay value.
