StanJr #1 Posted June 28, 2006 This game isn't that bad. All I hear is how bad it sucks, hell I have even joined in the bashing on hearsay alone. yet, now I am playing the game through for the first time and it is not nearly as bad as it is hyped to be! As a matter of fact, I am having fun with it thus far. Sure, the camera has a mind of its own at times and the Tomb Raider sections are a bit forced, but overall this game isn't the complete turd it is painted to be. So far I am in the Villa and have had a lot of fun getting there. I had some frustrating moments (like learning that I needed to save now and then.... ), but this game is far from unplayable as I was led to believe! Does it really get worse as I play it, or will I continue to enjoy it as I already am?
JB #2 Posted June 28, 2006 All I know of it is that Best Buy wound up giving it away. 10$ with a 10$ rebate. They advertized it in the newspaper. And they STILL had racks full of it. Make of that what you will.
+Cobra Kai #3 Posted June 28, 2006 Best Buy also clearanced out Ogre Battle 64, Paper Mario, and Perfect Dark at $9.99. They have shelf space to clear. Castlevania 64 was damn good, with great cutscenes, a fleshed out storyline, and even though it was in a 3D environment it still had linear level design more or less. It suffers from the same thing virtually all 3D platformers suffer from, piss poor camera control.
Atarifever #4 Posted June 28, 2006 It was the second game I got after getting my N64 and I was excited about it. I played it a bunch that night and I thought it was great. Then there were sections around deadly water with a bad camera and poor platforming ability and I just never got back into it.
figgler #5 Posted June 28, 2006 Well, the controls suck as I recall, which is why I was quickly frustrated. However it's biggest fault is that it's in 3D and Castlevania purists don't like that, particularly when it's poorly implemented
Drewman21 #6 Posted June 28, 2006 I would say how you are enjoying it so far. If you have the first version you can use the two characters, Belmont and the girl, and kinda do the same areas. If you get the second re-mix or whatever it was called you have to start the game with a single guy/werewolf character and have to beat it to unlock Belmont and the girl. Then with those two you can unlock the 4th guy who is a Knight and has a totally different story and areas to explore. Kinda cool for two versions but suck for camera angles. Vic George 2K3 #7 Posted June 28, 2006 And I never got around to even trying its "director's cut" sequel.
ninjarabbit #8 Posted June 28, 2006 I didn't like Castlevania 64. If I remember correctly the first boss was a completely out-of-place motorcycle riding skeleton and the gameplay was very mediocre 3-D with crap control and crap camera. At least the PS2 3-D Castlevanias did a decent job of 3-D.
StanJr #9 Posted June 29, 2006 there are two motorcylcing skeletons who help the first boss, the giant Skeleton, but they die fast and you can forget you ever saw it (I did). Still enjoying it.
sega saturn x #10 Posted June 29, 2006 My gripes were the camera never focused on the right things the controls were lousy and you die and you start all over. No thanks.
Mark III #11 Posted June 29, 2006 Wait till you get to the towers near the end of the game, where you have to do most of the platform jumping. And if you miscalculate once, have to start the entire area over again. Then you will hate this game. I guarantee it.
JB #12 Posted June 29, 2006 Best Buy also clearanced out Ogre Battle 64, Paper Mario, and Perfect Dark at $9.99. They have shelf space to clear. But did they have them for free, in the newspaper ad AS FREE, and still have solid racks full of them when you went up there almost a week later? They literally couldn't GIVE the game away. If I forgot the motorcycle skeletons I'd have less reason to lke the game. It's like being attacked by a very weak version of Ghost Rider.

shadow460 #18 Posted June 30, 2006 I've seen stores penny out PS1 games. Why not just give them away instead of having to charge something?

If you mastered the controls for any third person N64 game I'd be suprised.
carpecarne #24 Posted August 19, 2006 Unfortuneately most controla for third person games sucked on the N64, even Mario 64 has camera issues in places. If you mastered the controls for any third person N64 game I'd be suprised. In Mario 64, you can use the C buttons to control the camera which is something you have to do and get used to. In Zelda they pretty much kept the camera behind you, but Z-targeting helped keep the camera on what was important. Other than those two games, all I had were racing games, Rogue Squadron and FPSes. But yeah, I mastered those controls pretty well.
rasone77 #25 Posted August 19, 2006 FPS and Racing games were what the N64 did best. I had many more of those than I did Third Person games because the controls were much better. Yeah Zelda was about the only Third Person game that had really good controls. I guess I did master those.
