Malix #1 Posted February 25, 2002 Well my dryer blew this week so me and the girl had to go to the laundrymat this sunday. In it they had two standups and one sitdown game. The sitdown was pac man but the two standup were Galaga and Guerrila war. Know Guerrila war has got to be one of the hardest to play games ever. Anyone ever waste a quarter on this montrosity? As for the Galaga this is my alltime favorite and I am quit good at it. This machine was like no other I have seen. The galaga spacecraft was not the normal ship, it was a glorifide X. Also the alien attackers where faces and funny looking people instead of ships. The game play was slower as well. The case looked just like anyother stand up I have seen. Anyone know anything about this?
Adrian M #2 Posted February 25, 2002 Guerilla War is hard, but it is great fun indeed. I've always been a fan of the the Ikari Warriors-type games. Ikari 1 and 2, Heavy Barrel, Time Soldiers, and Guerilla War are some of my favorite arcade games and the rotary sticks are the best (provided they actually work properly). The Galaga game you saw is probably one of the many hacked versions that was so prevalent in the 80's. Games like Pac-Man, Galaga, etc all had plenty of variants to increase the life span of a standard coin-op game. Even some modern games, SFII and Mortal Kombat were prone to hacking and speed ups, etc.
Raccoon Lad #3 Posted February 25, 2002 I played a Galaga just like that last year at a pizza place in Washington. The "glorified X" I think is supposed to be a helicopter, but the props don't turn. The Cabinet looked just like a regular Galaga, but there was a small sign on the marquee that said "suitable for all ages"
liquid_sky #4 Posted February 25, 2002 Galaga and Pac Man were 2 of the most pirated/hacked arcade games.. I uaed to have a little Galaga page before my isps server crahsed.. I hae notes sittin around.. here are a few of the odd galaga bootlegs games I know of From my galaga site that if i can find the html ill revive: There are also many bootlegs out there, some have legit sounding names such as Galaga 84. Other bootlegs and clones were as simple as being named Galaga with cheap ROMs, others were know by odd names like Nebulous Bee. There are also many hacks out there, here is a list of the ones i know of Beer-Aga - Changes the characters into beer bottles. Galaga '99 - Changes the graphics to make them look better. Galagalaxian - Changes the graphics to make them look more like Galaxian. Galapede - Changes the graphics to make them more like those of Centipede. Swarm - Adds a time limit to make the game harder. VidGameKing #5 Posted February 26, 2002 You know what I was looking at the old CRT that came with the cabenit i bought, and it has alot of burn in with the text readable when it is vertical so I figured it was from vertical screen based unit before it was put into mine. Today I was staring at it unusually long and I noticed the word Galaga burnt onto the screen so i thought that was sort of cool. Thats all, ohh yeah i'm having it taking to the dump tommarrow, it's busted so I dont want to worry about it.
Malix #6 Posted February 26, 2002 Yeah Raccoon that was the game I played. Thanks for the info...I would have to say that it was a hack, the game play and fire speed were so slow it made it almost unplayable. It was way to easy.
