I have this foreboding feeling that consoles are going to start heading in the direction of PCs with new systems comming out yearly and allowing for upgrades similar to what the 360 and ps3 are doing.

I'd have to say 360, just because it's the only system I've actually had experiance with first hand. You'll have to wait a year to get my opinion on the Wi and PS3

I vote Wii as I'm very interested in the system per se. However, I've yet to see a game that I really want for it yet.

Same kind of thing with the 360, I guess, the machine is great, but I don't want any of the titles. Man, I'm going to jack in this gaming thing soon :)

The Wii has some novetly features no doubt, but all of the systems still depend on physical controllers of some sort, nothing is fully immersive 3-D "Virtual Reality" so to speak, and one cannot touch, smell, feel, and in a sense be in the game. When the gaming world has reached the possiblity for the gamer themselves to be transported into the game in a fashion much like Tron, or the holo-dec on Star Trek...... but through the inteface directive being fused with the sensorium of human thought THEN AND ONLY THEN, will we have reached The Next Generation.

By that logic, we're still in the same gaming generation that Pong started. Games have been physical controllers hooked up to TV sets for 30 years.

wii is meant for regular people who won't spend 600 dollars on a system. Not that there is a crappy system out there that is going for 600 bucks. Also, nintendo let's you buy used games. just to think, a company that only allows you to buy games new. That would be a shitty ass company. Also, wii is for ppl who won't spend 90 to 100 dollars on one game. gees I wonder what kind of company would do that. well....................I guess no one would buy stuff from that company. (unless they're a complete idiot) also, a company that only gets two votes.......................................................................................................................................................................................................

Nintendo has been most vociferous in the past that people should NOT be allowed to sell or trade old games. They have campaigned extensively to try and make rentals and sales of used games to be illegal, even succeding in one district of Japan. They are also on record as stating that they should be paid a royalty if you are still playing older games.

And you don't think they're going to let you sell or trade those NES, SNES, or N64 games you'll be downloading for $5 to $15 each, do you?

Both Sony and Nintendo are equally evil on this point. But I find Nintendo's stealth method of brainwashing consumers to be far more insidious.

Also, wii is for ppl who won't spend 90 to 100 dollars on one game. gees I wonder what kind of company would do that.

Nintendo's current software ally, Sega, sold Genesis Virtua Racing for $100. It wasn't unusual to see Phantasy Star IV priced at $130 when it first came out. Super Street Fighter II Turbo for the SNES was one I found "on discount" new for $80. I know of one person who paid $80 for NES Super Mario III when it came out. In fact, most games for the SNES were priced around $60. Most games for the N64 were around $65 - $80.

Meanwhile, the most expensive Sony approved game I can think of is Arc the Lad Collection, which was 4 games in one pack for $60-$70. So, evidence in the past shows that Nintendo is more likely to charge $90 to $100 for games. In fact, Sony has a history of undercutting the prices of others rather than charging more for less which is exactly what Nintendo has a history of doing.

Fuck the past. Nintendo has already promised a $50 maximum price point for first-party games. Which means that if they release anything above that price, us Wii-admirers will kill them for it. Sony has already said they can't even promise to sell games for as low as $59.

No company is any more moral or ethical than another. They're all trying to make money. It's up to us lowly consumers to deicde whether their shit is worth the money or not.

I see your point, but it was what it was, and has been for quite some time. We're in a High-Def age however, where everything being Blipverted to the public at large is about a paradigm shift in the industry/hobby. Thus if you look at it from that prespective, the systems coming out should be offering something more than better graphics but largely the same experience. No, we've come a long way in terms of generations of consoles, and there were no doubt more than a few technological novelties even back during the Intellevision days with voice activated games and stuff, but the fact remains, if gaming companies are going to spend millions of dollars to come up with newer consoles... and someone like SONY is going to charge the $599.99 + more stuff you need with it; well then they should be pushing R&D to the limit of actually placing the gamer into the VR Construct world itself. I realize the technology is there already, but it would probably be at least $3,000 a console and each program would run the price of Neo:Geo AES carts in their hey day ($280 - $300) a game. Thus it wouldn't be condusive to the average consumer. My point is that today's upcoming consoles should be touted as what they are... "High Definition" gaming, with the exception of GC 3.0 / Wii, but no doubt connected to it all since it's in the HD age. But after a quarter of a century of the same, calling what's out now on X360 and what (no matter how good it looks) SONY is boasting about with PS3, it ain't "Next Gen" it's a step-up upgrade to what indeed would be the current generation from the previous generation that is Xbox, PS2 and Game Cube.

When I can load up say "Metal Gear Rising" on the Sony GPXL "Devastator" system or the M$ XBox 4 (or any kind of tactical game) and no longer have to worry about button configurations... BUT actually carry on the way I would in the real world, blend in with whatever microterrain is present, strip the dead of their weapons, solve puzzles of my own and cirumvent security systems (i.e. PAN doors and more), seduce the game's one of many actresses, abort the mission and decide to take out those who sent me in and more... THEN, we'll have reached the next generation.

That said, I'm looking forward to the Wii and what it has to offer, even though 90% of what will get played on it (by me) will no doubt be Famicom, PC Engine, and Mega Drive stuff, and hopefully some MAME capability to play thousands of arcade ROMS.

notice that that was like ten years ago. (even more) we are talking about NEW consoles. who gives a fuck about what theyt DID it's what they are doing NOW that matters. you know a person who paid 80 bucks for super mario 3. I have news for you. THE PERSON YOU KNOW IS AN IDIOT! also, the sega genesis has nothing to do with the wii. get over it.

ROM cart VS Compact Disk is a fundamentally flawed analogy, as there are minimal production costs associated with CDs that are constant per diskand very large production costs associated with ROMs that vary directly with the capacity of the cartridge.

I voted PS3 because I refuse to have to sell and downgrade from my high def tv to a standard def just to be able to play the wii.

Why would you have too? :? It may not look a fourth as sharp as the others but I'm sure it will look fine on an hdtv.

I voted PS3. It has more games that I will like than the rest and games that I played before and are remakes or sequels like Warhawk, Tekken and most importantly MGS4 which is the seller. If the storyline didn't interest me so much then I wouldn't care. Though I love my 360. Oblivion is mind blowing. The little guide they put in the Collector's Edition is great, they did a excellent job with the illustation and the overall book. The Wii looks great too. The classic games are appealing as well as the newer ones like Red Steel and SSB. Really I would have voted all three if I could. The PS3 would be on the top though.

well, first off I got my 360 last year on launch night..i love it..its a awesome system...

im looking forward to the ps3 but all the news about it is a real turn off meaning the UBER high price for the system etc (sure the preview games we have see are great but thats about it but its just a tease nothing more also add to the fact that sony is really pushing blu ray and thats jacking the price for the ps3 way up) ) .. and the fact that sony does not care about the gamers at all..its pretty obvious that sony is just being greedy plain and simple more and more i thing the 360 will be the best.
