Metal Storm (NES) resembles...

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one who thinks that Metal Storm for the NES looks and plays an awful lot like a certain Capcom property who happens to be Mega and somewhat Man-like?

I mean, other than MM not sticking to the ceiling, these two games look and play very similar...

Megaman can't shoot up. :P

Seriously, the gravity flip makes the game radically diffrent.

Much like Sonic and Mario don't play at all the same, even though both of them are just running and jumping.

And I don't see the visual similarity at all.

I do because he said it.

If you try hard you will see it.

I just played the game on console classix and the graphics in the game are excellent. I really like the animation of the characters. It kinda reminds me of Little Samson with the way the animation is done.

the character modelling and level modelling (especially the first few) are very reminiscent of MegaMan.

The first level feels straight out of MegaMan save for the ceiling walking. And that first boss could easily appear in any MegaMan game.

From the moment I popped it in and played the first level, I thought, hey this is MegaMan with Gundams!!

Yeah I noticed when transitioning from one level sector to another it holds the character in place then slides the background into play.

Well I might have been hallucinating but I've been playing this game all evening and haven't gotten tired of it yet. Thanks for the thread about it. :)

yeah, it is a great game and I think I like it a lot because it resembles MegaMan so much. Its innovative in ways with the gravity changes and the levels are short enough not to be completely frustrating.

Yeah, the quick load slots on an emulator are good feature. It's great. :D

The part that got me is in the end where you have to fight all the bosses again( again like the NES megaman games)

there's two bosses that were pretty hard to beat. The one where the mech stays on the right side and changes it's attack based on how many hits you give it and then it combines all of them irratically. Then the other one is where there's 3 block that rotate in a boxed-in room. It's not hard, but it IS hard to figure out how to hit them at the right time to avoid hurting or killing yourself.

I should mention that it's one of the few NES games with parallax scrolling...

*twitch*

I HATEHATEHATEHATEHATE the Stage 6 boss(revolving boxes). You'd think it'd be a bit easier for something that spends so little time actually attacking you.

My strategy is just hold fire while facing left and jump before I get squished. Obviously this changes once they start dying. If one goes red, I quit shooting at it until all 3 are red, then cut loose again with some fancy grav flips.

Yah. Metal Storm is a VERY impressive game, technically speaking. In some ways it was outshowing the SNES and Genesis games of the time, which is a hell of an accomplishment for an NES game.
