shadow460 #26 Posted July 3, 2006 I know this is going to sound dumb but it is the number #1 item on my want list and nobdy seems to have it. Rayman demo disc ps1 Seems like the odds and ends are the hardest to get. A copy of FF7, the manual for The Radien Project, Nod disc for Saturn Command and Conquer, etc. FF7 is getting hard to find in some areas nowdays. I think before too long, it'll become quite the collector's item.

Clint Thompson #29 Posted July 4, 2006 (edited) While I don't have any of my Jaguar proto goodies like I once used to... (VR, Cortina, Jag2, etc. etc.) I think it's fair to say that my holy grail is the memories I possess and the people I've met along the way and have become good friends with. While you can have any single or multiple "holy grails" nothing quite compares to being able to share that feeling with like-minded people. The good usually outstands the bad and I'm glad to have experienced in what I have. Long live Atari, in loving memories. =) People don't understand why I enjoy the 360 as much as I do either... but the memories continue and live 'in some ways' in XBLA and Neon (for a few examples).... Hounder #30 Posted July 4, 2006 Right now it's my Tiles of Fate proto for the NES. It use to be the Myriad box/manual I owned but I traded them off for the aforementioned proto. My holy grail will soon be a complete CIB Color Dreams collection for the NES
spacecadet #31 Posted July 4, 2006 Right now, my Holy Grail is the PS1 game Bust a Groove, which is a fighting game where you outdance your opponent. Jesus, I'm slowly discovering that practically my entire PS1 collection is nothing but rarities. I guess that's what happens when you buy nothing but RPG's and goofy rhythm games for 3 years. I don't think you need to go without eating for a month to buy this game, though; it only goes for $50-$70 or so on Ebay. Still a lot for a PS1 game. I've noticed, and I flinch when I see prices that high. I guess I was brought into video gaming too early, when $25 for a new game seemed like a lot of money. When I found another Holy Grail (Namco Museum Volume 2 for PS1) for $20 at a local store, even without the manual or original jewel case, I jumped on it on the spot. I guess I've just gotten to the point that I don't consider eBay to be a viable option.

I guess I've just gotten to the point that I don't consider eBay to be a viable option. Well, your original post was talking about spending whatever it took and eating Ramen for a month. $50 doesn't seem like a lot under that criteria. $50 is nothing for a "holy grail", in my mind - a holy grail is as you original said, something you'd practically give away your firstborn for. My holy grail is probably any one of the several special Dreamcast packages they made for Japan. The Hello Kitty one is kind of common but I still want one. The really late D-Direct systems that came in silver and gold and a couple other colors are REALLY rare. I'd kill for one of those. I've seen these sell for $1,000 the very few times I've seen them for auction even in Japan, but I don't know what the price is today and it's almost impossible to get one of these in the US for any price. A close second would probably be the Hitachi Hi-Saturn Navi. Also an extremely rare system. I think the last one sold went for $1,400. FF7 is getting hard to find in some areas nowdays. I think before too long, it'll become quite the collector's item. I think it's more just that Advent Children has rekindled interest. It'll die down before too long. And once the PS3 remake comes out (and it is being made), there will be basically zero interest for the original anymore. I have both pristine PSX and Windows copies of this game (and the original PSX version, not the greatest hits one), and I know that now's the best time to sell. But I still can't bring myself to do it Edited July 4, 2006 by spacecadet

Arrgggh, so the orange, boxed DC I saw in a second hand shop in Hong Kong last month for HK$950 was a bit of a bargain then?!?!? Or was it simply a re-cased unit? spacecadet #42 Posted July 4, 2006 Arrgggh, so the orange, boxed DC I saw in a second hand shop in Hong Kong last month for HK$950 was a bit of a bargain then?!?!? Or was it simply a re-cased unit? Just because it's a different color doesn't mean it's one of those special D-Direct units. You'd have to look up what the real colors were (I honestly only remember silver and gold, but there were others), and check the packaging really carefully. Nobody selling one of those would be selling it any other way than complete in box or even new in the box. They were known collector's items even at the time - that was the point. They were the last Dreamcasts off the assembly line and you could only get them through a special lottery on Sega's web site. So nobody's going to be selling them bare; if someone bought one, they bought one to keep it as a museum piece. There were plenty of replacement shells for the DC so you can't just go by it being a different color than white. I don't really think there were any LE badges or anything on the d-direct systems but they did look different than the replacement shells. The box did have a sticker on it noting the LE status. Supposedly only 200 of each color were made. Here's one: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-01-77-1-49-zh-70-156f.html
Mark III #43 Posted July 4, 2006 I'd have to say the special edition Chu Chu Rocket dreamcast released in Japan or an original Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder Arcade Machine.
Malc74 #44 Posted July 5, 2006 My Holy Grail would definitely be a Timex Sinclair 2068, boxed and complete with a few games and the Spectrum compatibility cart. An Adventurevision has to be near the top of the list as well.
EricDeLee #45 Posted July 5, 2006 FFVII's goin' for 30$ but a dealed copy's up around 100 I've sold three copies in the last two month and given one to a very good friend of mine. I sold one for $80. One for $64, and on fro $95 in store credit. ( I haven't figured out what to do with the store credit yet. Perhaps I'll wait for TG games.)

Right now is a great time to unload these... and the whole reason is because I keep hearing about the PSX emulator they are going to have running on the PSP. (Or at least I HEAR they are going to do that... is it still true?). At that point... you can pick up a copy of FF VII for a mere $15 or so. (For the PSP version you download). I wonder if they will cut anything out? I haven't played through FF VII yet... so please no spoilers. I have an idea what happens...but I'm only on Disk 1 still. I was talking to a co-worker recently. He actually HAD an adventurevision. He remembers it. He is going to go home sometime soon and root through the atic for his stuff. I'm going to offer him a good amount of cash if he still has all of his stuff. He was a walking encyclopedia of retro game stuff.

I'd also love to get a copy of Sphear for the Jag, but know that's an impossibility. What is Metal Mutant? Metal Mutant is a completed, commercial-quality shooter that was coded by a French development team in the early '90s. Although the company never released any pre-release info, and it never appeared on any release lists, it appears that Metal Mutant was ready for release shortly before being permanently canned for unknown reasons. Several years ago, the company's former CEO (team leader?) confirmed the status of Metal Mutant as a finished Lynx title, but stated that he had lost the only completed code some time ago. He couldn't confirm the possibility that other completed code existed...somewhere. There are some Metal Mutant threads in the Lynx forum, but there are very few verifiable details available about this intriguing title.
