VW #1 Posted July 3, 2006 (edited) I can't find this anywhere, only cracked versions of this game. I would give in and buy it on Ebay like I did Ultima V but I have never seen Ultima VI for ST on Ebay. If anyone could help out I would appreciate it, I have .ST files that I made from my original Ultima V disks with makedisk I would be glad to share. Tempest #2 Posted July 3, 2006 I know Ultima VI had to have been released for the ST because I've seen pictures, but it must have been pretty rare because it is actually listed as unreleased on several sites. That's probably why you've never seen it on ebay. I'd like the images for it myself. Tempest
VW #3 Posted July 3, 2006 According to the Ultima Collector's Guide, Ultima VI for the ST was only released in Europe. I bought both Bard's Tale I and Ultima V for the ST from British people on Ebay though and they weren't that hard to buy so I'm not sure why Ultima VI seems to be so much rarer. I'll tell you if I ever find them.

Bought it from a dealer here in the US when it was released, but I'm uncertain as to whether or not he imported it, as was the case so many times with ST titles... Its hard drive installable and even runs on the Falcon.... I have to confess, I'm a bit disapporinted in the graphics in certain sections of the games. It looks like they ported the EGA or CGA images over without taking advantage of the Atari STs hardware... They did 256 color VGA for the PC, I'd love to have seen that for the Falcon! Cool I'm assuming that UVI has copy protection like the others? Can you image the disks and see if they run - and Pasti image the disk that contains the physical protection if they don't? I've only got the UVI from DBug. Not that I don't trust them - but...

I'm surprised they even bothered porting it to the ST since the market was pretty much dead by that point. Although both the ST and Amiga versions are pretty crappy ports, it's like they didn't even try. Like you said, the graphics are... lacking... I guess I'll try playing this on a PC using DosBox. I'm not sure about the disks being copy protected. You can install it on your hard drive. It doesn't ask for the original install disks after that, that I can recall. Keep in mind, I've not gotten around to playing it all the way through either!. Lord British will, from time to time, ask you a question that you have to have the owners manuals to answer. Something along the lines of making sure that your player character is who they say they are... I've got my Falcon apart right now - waiting to have the battery chip socketed and replaced. I've still got my Mega ST that runs the BBS, so I'd have to do it from there... Might be a bit, if you don't mind waiting. I think I've got Hatari and STeem setup on my Linux laptop, will have to look - I've not used either in a long time so I'm sure they are older versions. I tend to prefer the "real" thing. I've never used Pasti. Can you give me the lowdown on it? Details, whatever? Thanks! Just clue me in as to what to do and I'll try to get U6 available for all. I hate to see any ST title slip into oblivion because an image could not be found/made for it...

+DarkLord #11 Posted July 5, 2006 Well, heck. I just went to the Pasti web site for the latest version, and it says it won't run on a Falcon or TT030. My Mega STe is down (needs a new power supply) right now. Guess I'll have to pull my BBS down and use the Mega ST to try and do this. Its got an Adspeed (16mhz) accelerator so that should help... I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Argh, Pasti won't even work with accelerators! Geez, the Adspeed is just about as compatible as you can get....
+DarkLord #13 Posted July 5, 2006 Argh, Pasti won't even work with accelerators! Geez, the Adspeed is just about as compatible as you can get.... Well...okay, after thinking about it for a moment, I guess its all got to do with disk timing, tied to the original STs 8mhz CPU speed. Is that right? Thanks, just curious... PS Whats the AtariAge record for replying to ones own posts?

Yup, it's all about that good old critical timing capture, acceleration would be a no-no Edited July 6, 2006 by remowilliams
ijor #15 Posted July 5, 2006 (edited) Argh, Pasti won't even work with accelerators! Geez, the Adspeed is just about as compatible as you can get.... Yeah, sorry about that. But you need a plain 8Mhz 68000. It is mentioned in the docs. As you guessed, it performs very precise timing. It should be possible to make a version for the Falcon, Mega STe, etc. But I don't have any accelarated machine for development. And because of the strict timing requirements, it is not really possible to develop this without the actual hardware. But I'd suppose that Adspeed can be disabled and put in non-accelerated mode. Or it can't? Note btw that you wouldn't gain anything when using an accelerator with the Pasti Imaging tool. The time it takes to image a disk is dominated by the the floppy rotation speed. So even a CT60 version would take as much time as a plain ST one. Edited July 5, 2006 by ijor

Yes, the Adspeed has either a CPX or ACC that will let you set 8mhz or 16mhz speed "on the fly". Very nice. Thats interesting to know. Thanks for posting the info about it. BTW, this is the first time I've used Pasti ever - I used "auto" for the settings. The resulting images seem...well, rather largish. 3 720k disks result in 3 images of 1.7 megs each. Is that pretty normal? Also, is there a specific 3 letter extension that should be used for Pasti images? (example, like *.ZIP for zipped archives). Thank you very much. +DarkLord #17 Posted July 5, 2006 (edited) Okay, gang. Here are the 3 images from U6. There are 3 floppy disks: Install Data disk 1 Data disk 2 They came out pretty large. I don't know if this is normal or not. I used "auto" for Pasti's settings. I didn't have time to test them out in any shape, form, or fashion what-so-ever. Let me know if they work okay. Thanks! PS I also wasn't sure what extension to use for naming them? Edited July 5, 2006 by DarkLord
+DarkLord #18 Posted July 5, 2006 Okay, I give up. For some reason, I can't upload any of the images. I first tried uploading all 3. I used the file attachments menu, browsed, found it, picked it, it took a minute or so up upload, then I picked "Add This Attachment", just like I do with pictures except they are not showing up. I tried it with one single image at at time, as well, with the same results. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.....
ijor #19 Posted July 6, 2006 3 720k disks result in 3 images of 1.7 megs each. Is that pretty normal? Yep. Tipically the size will be about twice the capacity. Pasti must store much more information than just the sector data. Also, is there a specific 3 letter extension that should be used for Pasti images? The extension is "*.STX". It should be there be default when using the file selector. For some reason, I can't upload any of the images Probably because of the file extensions. Most forums accept only certain type of files as attachments. Make a zip archive of all the files (or 3 zip files, one for each Pasti image), and then try to post the zip file(s). +remowilliams #20 Posted July 6, 2006 Yep. Tipically the size will be about twice the capacity. Pasti must store much more information than just the sector data. One thing I've noticed - if I Pasti image a game, say Dive Bomber (SS disk) - the resulting .stx is >800K. Yet I have seen a 'pre-made' Pasti image of the same game and it is much smaller ~400K. Same goes for many games I've imaged. Is there an internal compressor tool that isn't available in the general release, or is this due to other factors? +DarkLord #21 Posted July 6, 2006 (edited) Okay, here we go again... <sigh>....still not go, and I put them all in a directory, zipped it up, and it came to just 2.7 megs or so... but it still doesn't get here....
