last cart you ever bought

Recommended Posts

dear god, my memory doesn't go back that far...and it would've been my parents seeing how i was probably 8 or 9 at the time. I can remember getting Journey Escape because my dad was a huge Journey fan, and the christmas i got River Raid. But as for the last game, no clue, whatever it was, it was probably a 7800 game.

EDIT: nope i remember now, back in the early 90's big lots was selling tons of brand new Asteroids and Solaris, i got Solaris because i already had asteroids.

For the 2600? I bought several carts from O'sheas back in 1998 or so.

The last 2600 game I bought in the store was probably a Atari Red Label Venture from the old Zayre department store. Or it could have been Atari Red Label Solaris and/or Gravitar from a mall toy store.

RealSports Soccer and Volleyball, as far as the memory of my original collection goes.

In regards to my current collection, I would have to say Pac-Man Arcade from AtariAge.

Last cart I ever bought new in a store was Secret Quest. I went to Lechmere's during the summer of either 1990 or 91 and was shocked to see it on the shelf. They only have like 5-6 of them selling for $6 each.

Not counting Oshea's or ebay purchases etc. I remember perfectly the last carts I bought for the 2600 in a store.

It was 1988, I was in college and the NES craze was hitting it's prime and I was right there. I'd go to Kaybees (at Valco Park in Sunnyvale, CA) a lot looking for games and picking up stuff like Tyson's Punch Out. Anyway curiously I happened to see 2 NEW 2600 games which mystified me that there'd be anything new for the system at all at that time.

Anyway they were Stargate and Jr. Pacman. They were a mere 15 bucks. And even though I didnt have a 2600 there in my dormroom, I picked them up knowing someday I'd be back home and could dig out my system. When I did.. I was 100% amazed at how good the games were as far as pushing the 2600 beyond what I thought it could do. Anyway.. that's about it. :P Stargate & Jr. Pac. The last 2600 games I bought retail :D

Do the close out games at Odd Lots count? If so, here are the last five new games I bought in 1993 for $1 a piece:

Double Dunk

Crossbow

Millipede

Jungle Hunt

Secret Quest

If you don't count close outs, the last cartridge I bought from a regular retail store was during the crash in 1984, Enduro for $10.

Space Invaders, in the closeout aisle of a KB Toy and Hobby store at Crestwood Plaza mall in St. Louis, in 1990 or 1991. I paid a whole 75 cents. I was there with a friend and he got one too. It was the only title they had.

Brand new? Back in 1991, Big Lots had a slew of 2600 games. The last game I remember buying new like that, was Sprintmaster.

Popeye or Smurfs don't know which one came first.

Last new games my daddy got were the complete Starpath library from 2 to 10.

He got them by mail order while they were still being produced.

Just before that, he got the Supercharger/Phaser Patrol bundle at retail. I guess the games aren't cartridges, but the SuperCharger is.

The last game I bought new from a retail store (believe it or not) was one of four 7800 games I got the same day:

Asteroids, Ballblazer (red), One on One Basketball, or Xevious--take your pick.

I bought them last year. Although they were in with the "used" games, all four still had the shrink wrap on the boxes. Xevious's shrink wrap had been cut, but inside it looked like it had never been played.

At retail it was Off the Wall at Service Merchandise. It was the last 2600 game in store. It was under a shelf. They did not even know they had it.

There was Big Lots also, I want the just about all of the Big Lots/Odd Lots in the southern Ohio and even a couple in Northern Kentucky.

I had forgotten about All For One stores, which I believe were owned by Odd Lots/Big Lots. I always had to check out the All For One in the Kenwood Towne Center after I got my hair cut.

The last 2600 games I bought from the AA store are Go Fish! and Seawolf.

The last cart I had my parents buy for me was probably Defender or Yars Revenge in 1982. After I started trading floppy disks for my Atari 800 and 800XL I totally left my poor 2600 in the dust :)

But part of the fun of the last six or seven years has been picking up and playing all the 2600 games I didn't get to play back in the day.

Aside from the ones I've gotten "new" on eBay (that is, NIB, but not "new" as in bought in a store)... I'd have to say it was probably Solaris.

I believe Pac Man was the last cartridge I bought new. I still regret that purchase. Shortly thereafter, I gave the 2600 to my nephew.
