djmips
Hi, over the last few days I've taken vdub_bobby's Arcade Pong kernel (very nice) and I've fleshed it out a little. I've published some of the versions and some introspection in my BlogI'm pleased with the way the sounds came out and I'm very happy with the way Bob's kernel can display large scores on the playfield like the original arcade Pong. Here is the current WIP.I'm planning on finishing up the gameplay next.cheers,- David (update 2019) Here in the first post I've also attached the very latest build. The oldest build (APongJuly04_A.bin) is kept for posterity. apong.bin APongJuly04_A.bin Edited February 13, 2019 by djmips

Nabuko78
Hi. I was looking for the original version of the Arcade Pong done by vdub_bobby but I can't find it. It seems that I had other version in which the ball bounce in the walls, but I lost it and when I thought I found it again it was the same game but ball isn't bouncing in the walls, in fact the ball is absorbed by them! no wall collision. Do you have it? Please I need it! Btw I like your Pong redo, I will put them together in my homebrew games folder. Promise.
vdub_bobby
The original version of Arcade Pong wasn't a game, just a demo. I believe I posted it in the hacks forum. And David, good work so far! Glad to see you doing this.
djmips
OK, here is the latest version: - fractional velocity/position for ball - improved point detection - improved ball on screen and y bounce top/bottom - paddle velocity zones (table driven) - check paddle/ball collision before updating paddle position - prevent double triggers on paddle collision APong.bin Still need to work on serve delays, ball speed changes, game over dection, game start, attract mode, and paddle range. And the source. APong.zip

Atariboy2600
Yeah, I think they're awesome.... (dude) BTW heres my tip in making this label as I was drawing it I was playing my MP3 songs of Styx - Come Sail Away. Jean_Knight - Mr.Big Stuff. Manfred Mann - Blinded By The Light. KC & The Sunshine Band - Do The Hustle. Earth, Wind and Fire - September. The Tramps - Disco Inferno. helps me in thinking up some 70s art style^_^
+Nathan Strum
Gnarly label, dude. (Or should that be groovy? I was never sure of the cutoff date there.) I always find listening to certain types (genres, eras) of music helps me when I'm drawing, too.

ComputerSpaceFan
I realize it's been three and a half years since this post was updated but did this version of Arcade Pong ever get completed? I just tried the bin file and aside from a few little bits that need to be fixed up, it's an incredible remake of the arcade machine. Did it get released or is there a post somewhere else with a completed version?

ComputerSpaceFan
The sounds are what really impress me, I'd swear the cabinet was hiding right behind my TV somewhere. Any chance of a single-player option?

Any chance of a single-player option? No chance of a single-player option. The purpose is to make an accurate recreation of the original Arcade Pong with no bells and whistles. djmips
I'm not sure where this latest version compares to the last I posted but the most recent changes are: - selectable game to 11 or game to 15. - game once again starts at 0-1 at boot-up demo mode - serve ball position slightly more acurate to Arcade Other changes from the posted version are probably: - added attract mode - serve delay like arcade pong - speed increase depending on hit count like arcade - rewrote paddle hit logic to be more like arcade - score is higher res - adjusted ball speeds to be like arcade Hopefully this is a better version but bug reports are appreciated. EDITS: (I have noticed a bug in this release, sometimes the ball can bounce off of the right paddle and not switch directions, that is it will bounce off to the right for a point for the left paddle) Additional release notes: In this version I moved the default for the the paddles to be in the second port. In Stella this is: P0 Controller Paddles in Right Port. The selection for games to 11 or 15 is the Player 0 difficult switch. I've added apong.zip which contains the apong.bin.cfg for stella which defaults the controls - mouse or left/right arrow for left paddle, up/down arrow for right paddle. apong.zip Edited November 26, 2010 by djmips
