As the title says, which set of overlays do you need most? Personally, I'm set on Space Battle and Space Spartans. For the rest, I've got workarounds for everything except Microsurgeon. The game is just too complex to play without an overlay. :(

Only an insane viceo-crazed man would think of this topic. And I respect that!

I find Utopia to be the most essential. I have the keys memorized on Space Battle but there's no way I want to do that with Utopia. And I've only played Microsurgeon on Bliss so that's not a factor.

So go ahead and vote already! :P

BTW, you might find this useful. It's how I got around the Utopia issue. The PNG should be the exact right size to produce high-quality overlays from a home printer. Give it a go and see if it works for you. :)

I've got original overlays for all except Poker/Blackjack. If you need scans of'em - let me know ;)

I need a Space Invaders overlay for 5200

Why? You need help identifying the select and # of player buttons?

Whats brilliant about this topic is that it's not the expected "which overlay do you need for your collection" but "which overlay do you need in order to play the freaking game." The majority of Intellivision and 5200 overlays were useless. It's interesting that Colecovision games never included overlays unless it was necessary.

It's interesting to note that INTV Corp. adopted the same practice as a cost-saving measure. AFAIK, the only game developed by INTV that included an overlay was World Championship Baseball. And that was just an update to Major League Baseball.

This was in direct contrast to Mattel's policy which required overlays for every game released. Arguably, it did make the games seem more professional, and even provided text to tell you what the side buttons did. (Although, did we really need text that pointed to the control disc with the caption, "DIRECTION" on every overlay? I don't think that consumers were quite that stupid. Then again... :P) But at the end of the day, more and more games were being produced in the Action arena where the overlays were just pretty artwork. Nearly all the strategy and sports games were produced earlier in the history of the Intellivision.

I just picked up instructions and both overlays for Microsurgeon at the 2006 Cinciclassic. So now I have all the overlays listed on this poll and can't vote. Now I'm really going to have to dig to see what I am missing. I did find out that I have the overlays and instructions for Bomb Squad but no cart? I swore I had all the Intellivoice games.

World Championship Baseball a good update of Major League Baseball, correcting its major weaknesses by adding fly balls, home runs, sliding and the best of all, one player games.

I can see why INTV made overlays for WCB. There are slight differences. The one that threw me was moving the select key for the second baseman from 6 to 5. It took me a while to get used to it since I played a lot of MLB. And it didn't help that I first tried to play WCB without the overlays.

I still think there isn't a video baseball game that gives you better control of all nine players. But then, I don't play modern games, so I could have missed something.

I would like the overlays for Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy and Wolfenstein 3D for the Jaguar, although I beaten both games many times without them.

My vote goes to Utopia, or Space Shuttle for the Atari 2600 :P

Most overlays for real are useless, with just marking 1-4 easy to hard, or some such noncense, do we really need help selecting a difficulty? But Utopia, actually made use of most the keypad, and everything did something different.

Great game too.

Should you require actual Microsurgeon OL's just shoot me a message (actually I have an extra complete one around too...)

I just flipped through a bunch of overlays that I have stacked together like a couple of deck of cards, and noticed a pair of Motocross ones. This might have been an INTV one? (can't remember!).
