game gear problem

Recommended Posts

I picked up a game gear today from my old buddy and I turned it on and there was no red light to signal that it was one and a blank screen :( . But when I turned it off the screen lit up green then shut off. I know you guys down here at atriage can help me out.

Thanks

What type of power were you using? I'd recommend checking it with an AC adaptor, which is going to put out 9VDC, about 1 amp, and have the center tip set to positive.

Also try cleaning the cart port, the game, and mess with the contast knob a bit.

Sounds like it was left turned on with old batteries and you night have turned it off instead of on, then turned it back on. It would have had a tiny bit of power, and then it would have died.

If you've got one of thhose kindey shaped battery packs, it might be kind of flaky after all these years.

no I have to get all fucking 6 batteries into that beast. It is missing battery covers so I think that the batteries are a little loose and not giving full power. You were also right about the power switch. I was wrong. I'm still havig no luck though. P.S. what should I clean the cartidge port with?

The same credit card and tissue trick works here as it does for the 2600, or you can use a Q tip and alcohol to clean a cart like normal, except don't dry it. Leave it pretty wet with the alcohol and then insert and remove it several times. Do it with something like Sonic 2 that doesn't have a save feature, otherwise it will wipe out your save files.

If you can get hold of an AC to DC adaptor, do it. It's the single best item available for the Game Gear. Any brand will work, as long as it's 9VDC at 1 amp and the tip is positive.

Dunno if they were selling 'em. Mine's got the battery covers it came with when it was new.

However, if you're wanting portablility, why not rebuild one of the battery packs that was made for the Game Gear? They plug into the DC power jack instead of going into the battery compartments.
