Recommended Posts

Hi, I currentally have a 2600 vader. Im looking to get a 7800, but still have a ton of questions that need answers! I found one on atari2600.com for $70 not including S&H and it came with everything including 2 controlers. Is this a good deal? Could I find another cheeper somewhere else? Can you give me an overview of everything I need to know about the system? Is it true it plays 2600 carts?

THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS, I REALLY APPRICATE IT!!!!!

That is the one thing I hate about some of these sites they blantly over charge. Before anyone tells you other wise we had a discussion here a while back over the real price you would pay for a 7800 complete. I recall at least 6 posts of people offering to sell one of their for less than $30. Take my advice go in to the Marketplace section of this board and post that your looking for a 7800 in the Wanted section and believe me you'll do better.

You should know that not all 7800's are created equal.

You should keep your 2600 close by of some games like Robot Tank, its version of Dark Chambers, Space Shuttle, and the Supercharger.

There are a few other titles like Commando Raid that will not have all their features on a stock 7800.

Still other titles don't fit right into the 7800, mainly these are Tigervision (don't fit at all), Imagic (barely fit), and Activision (tight fit).

There are ways to make said games fit the 7800 easily.

The best kind to get is one with an expansion port on the side. Just ask the seller if that's present.

You'll also probably want aftermarket controllers, and you might need a new power supply if the 7800 you're buying doesn't have a working one. Aftermarket controllers aren't difficult to build.

If you're planning to modify the console, plan out all the mods you want to do before you even begin. You'll want to get as many mods working as you can while the 7800 is apart, since the casing is so easily broken.

Or just get a 7800 that's been modified to play everything and use a standard power plug.
