ATARIPITBULL #1 Posted July 14, 2006 When I look at some of these game ads and the prices they were charging makes me want to cry for how much we have to pay for them now. Do you have any of these ads, post them here.

Lord Thag #4 Posted July 14, 2006 And you know you're a hopeless cause when your first use for a time machine is to got back to 1984 and buy Atari games Me, I'd go pick up all of those tigervision games I don't have. I'me hopeless, but honest
Rom Hunter #5 Posted July 14, 2006 (edited) http://www.atarimania.com/lst_pub.php?LANG...n_sauver=Search And that's just the tip of the iceberg. We got 884 of these old ads in our database right now. You should visit Atarimania more often, my friend. Edited July 14, 2006 by Rom Hunter
Trade-N-Games #6 Posted July 14, 2006 Its a little like looking at completed auctions on ebay with the things that go super cheap. If we had only seen the auction it would have never sold that low. As for the Tigervision River Patrol I never saw any tigervision games at the stores when I was young I did not even know about them.

Years from now when scores of crazy old men are found piled under classic gaming refuse like old cat ladies, you'll be able to get those rares dirt cheap! supercat #11 Posted July 14, 2006 It'd be cool to have been able to develop games then with my knowledge now, but I see nothing to write hom about with regard to prices. With a few exceptions (Boing?) the vast majority of good games are much cheaper now than they were back in the day.

I'm taking the games with me, no ones getting them;a coffin made of game cartridges? I'm with you, (despite some ironies) There are too many wannabe collectors who collect games because they think its "hip to be square". I began collecting atari games before I even found the internet, add the fact I grew up in a small town I feel I've come to appreciate them as if I had grown up with them, since I'm approaching the 10 year mark in a couple of years by the time I'm as old as some of the more distinguished members of this forum I'll genuinely have nostalgia of my younger days of collecting. At least I started collecting BEFORE I was 15 Well I'm through, of bein' cool Edited July 15, 2006 by Atari-Jess
Vic George 2K3 #13 Posted July 15, 2006 I collect games to play, NOT to put them on a shelf or mantle and brag about having so-and-so game that's so ridiculously hard to find. Some of those games I wouldn't even care about having again because they were just so bad. I would want to go forward and see Champ Games' 2600 Ladybug game finally become a cartridge so I can snatch up a copy and play it on an actual system ahead of everyone else. Foxsolo2000 #14 Posted July 15, 2006 I would love to go back but I think that I would stock up on all the vintage Star Wars stuff that I loved to collect as a kid before turning my attention to Atari of course
Philflound #15 Posted July 15, 2006 (edited) You people are nuts. If I could go back, I'd go back to the 1930s with $1 and purchase 10 copies of Action Comics #1. If you're going to do it, do it right. That and maybe 10 copies of Detective Comics #27. You sell one nowadays and you could buy all the Star Wars figures and all the Atari games brand new sealed and still have enough to buy a house. shadow460 #16 Posted July 16, 2006 Most of the game I buy cost me less than what they cost when they were new. None of my 2600 titles are an exception to that rule.
ATARIPITBULL #17 Posted July 16, 2006 Most of the game I buy cost me less than what they cost when they were new. None of my 2600 titles are an exception to that rule. Yes and thank god we can pick up a Pac-man, E.T., Frogger CIB and so on for $5.00, but for me and lots of other collectors, I would like to have every Atari 2600 game made even if they are good or bad, not to say I have them, but to have that piece of Atari history in my house. I grew up in Detoit during the golden age of video arcade games, Pac-Man & Donkey Kong were gods and when Atari came out with a system to play arcade games in your own home, it was like heaven to me and my friends and now at 34 years of age, a wife & 2 kids, I love having that feeling all over every time I step into my collection room to play a game of Wizard of wor & Yars Revenge. Crazy Climber #20 Posted July 16, 2006 Its a little like looking at completed auctions on ebay with the things that go super cheap. If we had only seen the auction it would have never sold that low. As for the Tigervision River Patrol I never saw any tigervision games at the stores when I was young I did not even know about them. The majority of games I purchased new in stores were Atari or Activision. I also had the occasional Parker Bros. or Coleco purchase but I don't really remember TigerVision 2600 games either. I just remember those crappy handheld games they had. The strangest game I bought from the store would have to be a Xonox double ender.
Inky #21 Posted July 16, 2006 Personally, I think NOW is the most exciting time to be an Atari user / collector, for the reson that the technical knowledge for the 2600 is freely and widely available, thus allowing the more experienced to create all new games, and the advancement of Batari Basic brings game creation to even more people. Yes, this time is the most exciting.

I couldn't sum it up better myself. After a long day at the office dealing with the usual chaos and mayhem, it's great to walk into the game room, leave all the cares of the day behind, and bust out some River Raid or Warlords with some friends. In my opinion, the #1 thing that makes people old is that they forget how to play, and how to have fun. With me, I don't think there's a danger of that Long live Atari! SpareHead3 #25 Posted July 21, 2006 I collect games to play, NOT to put them on a shelf or mantle and brag about having so-and-so game that's so ridiculously hard to find. I agree with Vic. The games I have get played. I only maintain a list of what I own so that family and friends know what not to send my way As for going back, I would have bought a Crazy Climber and never allowed my original system and games to "go away". Most of what I want to have again is easy (and cheap) enough to get these days. I dont care about boxes (the few I have are in a closet) or manuals (that's what AA is for )
