hbomb #1 Posted July 25, 2006 I was looking at the Atari Guide website and its rarity guide for Atari 2600 consoles. Some of the ratings seem to be a little off. Here's how the different models lined up. (1=Very Common, 10=Extremely Rare) Console Rarity Rating Atari 2600 Jr. Short Rainbow 1 (Very Common) Atari 2600 Jr. Long Rainbow 1 (Very Common) Atari 2600 Dactar Suitcase System 1.5 (Common) Atari 2600 4 Switch Woody 1.5 (Common) Atari 2600 4 Switch Vader 2.5 (Uncommon) Sears Telegames 4 Switch Woody 3 (Uncommon) Sears Telegames 6 Switch Woody 3 (Uncommon) Atari 2600 Heavy Sixer 3.5 (Rare) Sears Telegames Heavy Sixer 5 (Rare) Atari 2600 6 Switch Woody 5 (Rare) Atari 2600 4 Switch Promotional 9.5 (Ultra Rare) How would you guys rate the systems in terms of rarity? Do you agree or disagree or both?
Trade-N-Games #2 Posted July 25, 2006 Well its a nice site with alot of info but that part might not have been updated in a long time. It gives a general idea of how hard they are to find to each other so its not to far off.
ATARIPITBULL #3 Posted July 25, 2006 Well I do and I don't, like the promo 4 switch being a 9 rare, come on, Ebay seems to have them for sale all the time ( I have a CIB promo in my collection ) and the Sear's six switch most times, has to be thrown in a lot sale because they don't sell alone. Mr. Postman #4 Posted July 26, 2006 The Dactar suitcase isn't common.
hbomb #5 Posted July 26, 2006 I'm curious to know how the Atari 6 switch woody is more rare than the Atari Heavy Sixer? Are there more heavies around than regular 6 switchers?

Do you agree or disagree or both? I disagree with most of that. Here's how I'd rate them: Atari 2600 Jr. Short Rainbow 1.5 (Common) Atari 2600 Jr. Long Rainbow 2 (Uncommon) Atari 2600 Dactar Suitcase System 9.5 (Ultra Rare) Atari 2600 4 Switch Woody 1 (Common) Atari 2600 4 Switch Vader 2.5 (Uncommon) Sears Telegames 4 Switch Woody 3 (Uncommon) Sears Telegames 6 Switch Woody 5 (Rare) Atari 2600 Heavy Sixer 5 (Rare) Sears Telegames Heavy Sixer 6 (Rare) Atari 2600 6 Switch Woody 3 (Uncommon) Atari 2600 4 Switch Promotional 7 (Rare) I left them in the same order, but made my changes blue and bold. I'm not really sure about the Jrs. or the Sears systems, any of them might need to adjust up or down by a point or two. This is of course only my opinion based on very little experience -- about 1.5 years a member here.
as_the_gavel_falls #7 Posted August 3, 2006 Uh, sorry, some of those are just default numbers when I created the listings, which was pretty recent for most of them; I will update them and anyone else please chime in with what you think the right numbers are. phitter #8 Posted September 23, 2006 How about the Sears Video Arcade II? I'd call it a 5 (Rare). -phitter
Urchlay #9 Posted September 23, 2006 How about the Sears Video Arcade II? I'd call it a 5 (Rare). -phitter Found one of those at a local used game store today... minus the power supply and the rotating joystick controllers. They wanted $40 as-is... I passed, but partly because I was already buying $100 worth of Vectrex games. Hm, how rare on the above scale would the Coleco Gemini console rate? (The standalone one, not the 2600 adaptor for the Colecovision)

(The standalone one, not the 2600 adaptor for the Colecovision) IN Canada, I'd rate it a 1 or at most a 2. I imagine they are slightly rarer in the US, but even so probably no more than a 3. What about that record company mail away version of the Gemini? I bet that's up there, in the 6 to 8 range.
Dave Farquhar #11 Posted September 24, 2006 What about the light sixer? I know it's more common than the heavy sixer, but I seem to find more 4-switchers than light sixers.
A.J. Franzman #12 Posted September 25, 2006 (edited) My version of the list above puts the 4-switch woody as more common than the light sixer, and the light sixer as more common than the heavy sixer, so I don't get what you're trying to say. Maybe you're referring to the original list, which shows the light sixer as rarer than the heavy sixer (yeah, right!) Edited September 25, 2006 by A.J. Dave Farquhar #13 Posted September 25, 2006 Sorry A.J., I didn't read your revised list closely enough after I saw it missing from the original. Thanks for answering my question before I asked it--and after.
Philflound #14 Posted September 25, 2006 I have a complete promotional Atari in the box. Never even opened it. I guess it's a 4-switcher. It's buried in the bottom of my video game closet. Phil
