Coleco games intentionally made bad for other systems?

Recommended Posts

This is regarding the rumour that COLECO made games for other systems look bad on purpose in order to make theirs seem superior?-I always thought the intellivision was capable of a BETTER DONKEY KONG,it was almost as bad as the 2600 version,I'm just not sure,as I'm no expert at programming video games, but by the looks of games like ZAXXON for the 2600,it sure looks to be true!Opinons?

I'm not a programmer either - But I'm guessing its simply because of the limitations of the 2600 (can't speak to the INTV).

My best friend had a colecovision and *all* of the games were better. Well, better at least graphically. I haven't played a coleco in 20 years - but I remember the graphics quality above and beyond what the Atari was capable of.

Yes,i'm aware that games on the CV are much better than that of the 2600 and intellivision, graphics wise,as i own almost every game for the CV,but, sometimes the graphics dont matter much,as i can think of a bunch of 2600 games that play WAAAAAY better and are more addictive than alot of CV games i can think of,that includes alot of the arcades ports as well

The problem is that the Coleco titles are ports of arcade games, not original titles for the 2600/INTV. Original titles can work with the strength of a console and around its limitations. An arcade port has to mimic the arcade game's action/feel/graphics. The later in the life of a console the harder this is. Add to that the fact the programmer of yesteryear had a limited amount of time (unlike today's homebrewers) and quality suffered inherently.
