Atari 1040ST monitor

I got hold of a old (from a bin from where I work ) Atari 1040ST with out leads or mouse (I think I know where the mouse is but is been use on a Windows PC at work ) but I got a 520ST at home.

The back of them is mostly the same but the 520ST has a Television output , the 1040ST has just the monitor output.

I do not know if the 1040ST works , so I do not want to spend too much $ but i like to know if I can link a "Windows" type monitor to the 1040ST/520ST via the Monitor output.

I think you could look at ebay for used & cheap atari monitors, or make a cable to use the 1040 with a VGA monitor:
