Sayton #1 Posted July 31, 2006 (edited) What games, whether title screen like ET or in-game like Pitfall 2, had music in them? Also, and this is probably stupid, but is there anyway to rip music from the ROM? Reason I ask is I really love video game soundtracks and if I could get music from Atari games and put them on a CD to listen to, that'd be awesome. Room 34 #2 Posted July 31, 2006 The music isn't stored as an actual audio file on the games, so there's no way to "rip" it. Your best bet is to use a program that can capture sound from other programs to grab the sound out of an emulator. Moon Patrol had very groovy music throughout the game! Others as well, of course, but I don't plan to make an exhaustive list. (My favorite in-game music from that generation, though, has to be SNAFU on the Intellivision!) +atari2600land #3 Posted July 31, 2006 I've been busy making MIDIs of music from Atari 2600 games. Here's a list of what I have so far. If anyone has any requests, let me know. http://midis.atari2600land.com
shadow460 #4 Posted July 31, 2006 (edited) Most famous that comes to my mind is Moonsweeper playing "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" at the end or Miner 2049er and "Clementine". Since I'm on a big Turmoil kick, I'll mention that game, too. Now games with continuous music (not just random beeps like Escape) Ghost Manor, Rabbit Transit, Frogger, Party Mix (starpath versions of those), Bump 'n' Jump, hmmm, this'll take some thought. Oh, poo. I forgot Journey Escape. I wonder what that game would have been like it had come out as Aerosmith Walk This Way instead? BrianC #5 Posted July 31, 2006 (edited) Marble Craze has some very nifty music and it's one of the few games that has multiple full length tunes. Other games with music: Popeye Gyruss Jr. Pac-Man (no music during gameplay, but it has a good amout of tunes that play before each level) Tapper Commando (shortened from the arcade, but impressive for the 2600) Kung Fu Master Up 'n Down Double Dragon Edited July 31, 2006 by BrianC

I'm saying until i heard your's, I never knew what that song on the title screen of Journey on the 2600 was supposed to be. You actually did a better electronic version. -Ray Edited July 31, 2006 by pocketmego

godzillajoe #13 Posted July 31, 2006 It sure does but you have to set the left difficulty switch to 'A' for the music to play. Or is it the RIGHT one? Either way, one of them Never understood why they did that.

Room 34 #19 Posted August 1, 2006 I always was able to recognize the song in Journey Escape... although maybe that's because I had already heard somewhere that a Journey song was in the game and I had played the game as a kid long before I ever heard "Don't Stop Believin'," which, sadly enough, was probably on classic rock radio in the mid-'90s. But for those who don't know... the 2600 is only capable of producing a very limited range of pitches, most of them not even close to being in tune by Western 12-tone standards. (Just check out Paul Slocum's notes in the Synthcart manual... or listen to the music in Donkey Kong Junior for the 7800, which uses the same sound chip.) Godzilla #25 Posted August 1, 2006 pengo has the difficulty switch music like moon patrol and its great. always love the 2600 music in crystal castles. mythicon firefly & sorceror have awesome music. arguably the only funky music on the 2600 back in the day. i LOVED pitfall 2's music it really blew me away at the time. yea, 2600 halloween did have great music. iirc both mr do games had pretty good music adaptions for the 2600. i cant tell you how cool i thought i was in star wars: empire when it played the star wars theme. jedi sounded even better. bond had a nice version of the bond theme. reactor is one my all time favorite musics in a 2600 game.
