Ite #1 Posted August 5, 2006 Anyone notice on the left side of the picture there are a bunch of black lines? Other than that this game rules and kills Atari 2600 Pacman in every way. Just got this today off Ebay. Great pick up.

Just got this today off Ebay. Great pick up. Black lines?? To the left?? Weird. Never saw that in an Atari 2600 game before. Thanks for pointing this out!! Yeah, I was blown away at the graphics and gameplay of Ms PacMan after playing regular Pac-Man. The difference is like night and day.
Ite #3 Posted August 5, 2006 See them on the left?
StanJr #4 Posted August 5, 2006 he was screwing with you. shame moycon. yeah, those lines appear in a lot of games, they have to do with how the graphics are drawn on the screen. Search around a bit and you'll find all kinds of threads about them.
PINMAN #5 Posted August 5, 2006 Because i was curious,i just tested this game out via emulation, and discovered that those lines were not visable when the rom was run through the Stella emulator.Strange.
+SpiceWare #6 Posted August 5, 2006 (edited) mycon was being sarcastic. lots of games have them. It's a side-effect of repositioning objects mid-screen so you can show more than 2 sprites. There's an option in Stella to not show the black lines. It makes the screen look better at the price of being not as accurate. Foxsolo2000 #7 Posted August 5, 2006 There was a rumour going around some years ago that if you got a certain high score then the Vanguard copter would make an appearance in the game as a fruit bonus. Has anyone ever witnessed this or has anyone seen it in the code of the game?
godzillajoe #8 Posted August 5, 2006 When I was a kid I wrote to the Atari Club magazine and asked what the black lines were. They never responded. Bastards! I sorta figured they had something to do with objects moving around since they seemed to follow on-screen activity. I think that question may have also been the first thing I ever posted to this forum as well!
+atari2600land #9 Posted August 6, 2006 One question about the Pac-Man games: How is a pretzel considered fruit?
moycon #10 Posted August 6, 2006 One question about the Pac-Man games: How is a pretzel considered fruit? Ah ha, I might have been sarcastic in my last response but I promise not to be in this one. Turns out prezels are indeed a member of the fruit family, they are just dried (not unlike raisins) until they are crunchy. The "salt" on the outside are really seeds. +FujiSkunk #12 Posted August 6, 2006 One question about the Pac-Man games: How is a pretzel considered fruit? The same way bells, keys and Galaxians are. Not to mention Coke cans, snowpeas, tricycles, toy drums, root beers... For Ms. Pac-Man, they would usually phrase it as "floating fruits and pretzels", but for the later games they gave up on calling them fruit and just called them bonuses (actually I think the 2600 manual for Jr. Pac-Man calls them tricycle/drum/whatever-shaped candies). godzillajoe #14 Posted August 7, 2006 Why did Atari change the Galaxian to the Atari logo in the 5200 version? They had the rights to Galaxian. Was it "just because?"
moycon #15 Posted August 7, 2006 Why did Atari change the Galaxian to the Atari logo in the 5200 version? They had the rights to Galaxian. Was it "just because?" Well let me tell you why.... Fact is Atari completely funded the 1980 film Galaxina. They were afraid that consumers would confuse the Galaxian in the game with the film. In an effort to avoid direct competition with themselves, they changed the Galaxian in the game to the Atari logo. Hope this help quell the confusion. Man O Man am I a walking encyclopedia or what? supercat #16 Posted August 7, 2006 Why did Atari change the Galaxian to the Atari logo in the 5200 version? They had the rights to Galaxian. Was it "just because?" I think the "Galaxian" was considered a mascot for Midway, somewhat like Mario is a mascot for Nintendo. As such, it made sense for Atari to stick its own mascot there. NE146 #17 Posted August 7, 2006 I remember reading various Pacman books and magazines and always wondering why they almost never referred to the Galaxian prize as a "Galaxian".. it was always some bogus name like "eagle" or something Aaah the old videogame press days.
