iratanam #1 Posted August 8, 2006 Anyone either know where I can locate 8-bit images to use on an Emulator? I would also love to know a way to transfer Atari 8 bit disks over to a format that I can use myself as I have quite a collection for my 1200xl and 800xl, problem is though since I no longer have a working Atari Disk Drive I would have to try and find a way to do this without one. Gunstar #3 Posted August 9, 2006 (edited) Another great source: http://people.freenet.de/mrbacardi/ As far as getting them back to run on a real Atari, there are several approaches. The most straight foward is A.P.E for Windows http://www.atarimax.com/ which includes Atari Periphrial Emulator AND Pro System. But this requires not only the software mentioned here, but also an SIO2PC cable and/or a 10502PC cable http://www.atarimax.com/flashcart/forum/ , Actual info to buy SIO2PC/Prosystem cable:http://www.atarimax.com/flashcart/forum/viewtopic.php?t=184 . The A.P.E.&SIO2PC cable lets you set up "virtual" atari disk drives in windows and load ATR. images directly to your real Atari over the cable. It supports upto 8 Virtual Atari drives that can use disk images or straight atari files. they can also be as large as 16MB disk images! The Prosystem&10502PC cable is used with the Pro-system software and instead of connecting an Atari computer to the PC, you can connect a 1050 or compatible drive to the PC and both write ATR. or .PRO images onto real disks or creating ATR. or .PRO images from real Atari disks. Another way would be to use A.P.E&SIO2PC in conjunction with your Atari pc, disk drive and sector copy software to write .ATR's to real Atari disks. The last way to make Atari disks from ATR. images is to install an old-school 360k DS/DD 5.25" floppy drive in your PC and in conjunction with some software that lets you write Atari compatible disks on the PC 5.25" disk. Other possible ways are to transfer images/files via terminal programs and null-modem cables between a PC&Atari or through modems and BBS systems.
