+SpiceWare #1 Posted August 13, 2006 With my latest arrival, Sir Lancelot, Air Raiders and Cookie Monster Munch, I've hit 300 unique games! I've an additional 21 cartridges that I'm planning to give to a friend, along with Medieval Mayhem, for Xmas. His oldest son, 7, played it a couple months ago and had a lot of fun. He said it was like a 4 player breakout, and he likes breakout. Not sure where he's played breakout before though, probably on the computer or maybe one of those 10-in-1 games. ATARIPITBULL #2 Posted August 13, 2006 That's great. Do you collect carts only or boxed Atari 2600 games?

pocketmego #4 Posted August 13, 2006 Nice, You guys certainly put me to shame, I'm still in the early 100's somewhere. However, My inherent laziness will never allow me to count all my carts, so I ma never know it once I reach the 2-300 mark. -Ray
markheus #5 Posted August 13, 2006 Congratulations !!! One of these days I'm going to be one of the cool people! You guys certainly put me to shame, I'm still in the early 100's somewhere. I'm with 'ya. Everytime I walk over to my cabinet and admire my collection I remember some of the collection photos I've seen on here..... About 120 unique titles here. I've actually started creating an Access database to house my collection so I know what I've got when I start trading to fill out the gaps in my collection. I own three chopper commands because of my ineptitude.
homerwannabee #6 Posted August 13, 2006 Very cool. I was at the 300 club last year.
Lord Thag #7 Posted August 13, 2006 (edited) I was there a couple of years ago. It means that you're hobby has become an obsession Congrats. It gets harder from there. I'm at around 450 these days, and very surprised to be there. Really though, it's not about quantity. It's about enjoyment. So whether you have thirty or three thousand, as long as the collection gives you enjoyment, and you're responsible with the money you spend on it, that's all that counts. As to being one of the 'cool people'.... Dunno about that. Most people who see my 400+ 2600 games think I take the short bus Cool is for people who are way to concerned about what someone else thinks. godzillajoe #8 Posted August 13, 2006 I just entered everything into an Excel spreadsheet and update it every time I get some new stuff. This became a necessity after I discovered I bought a few games I already had.
markheus #9 Posted August 13, 2006 I just entered everything into an Excel spreadsheet and update it every time I get some new stuff. This became a necessity after I discovered I bought a few games I already had. That's what I did at first, but it wasn't very efficient after the first 50 games. I wanted to be able to easily find out which games I had by which manufacturers and which label variants I already had. Sorting through the spreadsheet just wasn't working like I wanted it to. Still almost impossible to avoid duplicates though...
godzillajoe #10 Posted August 13, 2006 Yeah I guess whatever works. I'm not too concerned about labels and such, I just don't really need a 6th copy of Yar's Revenge!
pocketmego #11 Posted August 13, 2006 Yeah I guess whatever works. I'm not too concerned about labels and such, I just don't really need a 6th copy of Yar's Revenge! I find when you buy in lots as I am apt to do, duplicates become a way of life. The irony is that I have like 5 Asteroids, 3 Yars', and ironically only 1 Combat. -Ray
+SpiceWare #12 Posted August 13, 2006 (edited) That's great. Do you collect carts only or boxed Atari 2600 games? Thanx! Carts only, though I do have 21 boxes that I have on display. The cartridges are all in plastic drawers(the blue ones) stacked on metal shelves in my closet. Each drawer perfectly fits 36 cartridges (4 rows of 9), though the odd shaped ones don't fit and are stored loose in a couple drawers. I'm not collecting label variations, nor manufacturer variations(ie: my new Air Raiders is INTV, so I'm not looking to get the M Network version). I was there a couple of years ago. It means that you're hobby has become an obsession Congrats. It gets harder from there. I'm at around 450 these days, and very surprised to be there. Really though, it's not about quantity. It's about enjoyment. Thanx! I have noticed it's getting harder to find cartridges I don't have. I think joining the HSC was a big factor in my collecting because I got exposed to a lot of neat games (like Sir Lancelot) that I didn't already own(was able to play them using the Krok Cart). I just entered everything into an Excel spreadsheet and update it every time I get some new stuff. This became a necessity after I discovered I bought a few games I already had. I'm doing the same thing, only using NeoOffice, which is a Mac specific version of Open Office That's what I did at first, but it wasn't very efficient after the first 50 games. I wanted to be able to easily find out which games I had by which manufacturers and which label variants I already had. Sorting through the spreadsheet just wasn't working like I wanted it to. The Auto Filter feature makes it easy to look up things. Excel has it as well. Edited August 13, 2006 by SpiceWare
+RandomPerson #13 Posted August 13, 2006 Congrats on hitting 300 titles!! Thats alot of games. Myself I have about 70 or so and that spans across both 2600 and 7800. Peanuts conpaired to your 300. Way to go!
markheus #14 Posted August 13, 2006 Looks like you've definitely got a cool system worked out. I've used Access far more than Excel so I guess that's what I gravitate towards when I need to store information. Just curious - Do you collect label variations and such? Did you follow a specific plan when you started collecting, other than to own the games you enjoy?
+SpiceWare #15 Posted August 13, 2006 I'm not interested in label variations, just unique games. No plan. Initially I just bought lots off ebay - at that point I was getting 3 systems set up, one for me, my sister and my brother. Even though I was setting up 3 systems I still ended up with a bunch of dupes which I sent in to Atari Age for recycling. Now I just scan for games I don't have. I've decided to take a break from ebay and do online stores. My most recent purchase was from http://www.8bitclassics.com/
Deteacher #16 Posted August 13, 2006 Congrats on joining the 300 Club! My first collection (sold it about 6 years ago) sported about 350 unique titles. My current collection is only around 100 right now. I look forward to the day when I'm back up where I was before. Will probably be a long road ahead for me. shadow460 #18 Posted August 13, 2006 (edited) MY first collection was 258 unique titles, and one dupe--the Atari pic of Berzerk. Now I'm up to roughly 183 in the second collection, but it does have label variations and some games the first one didn't have (Fathom, Moon Patrol, Popeye, etc). If I inculde my 7800 games, I'm deep into 200. I think I've got 45 of those, about half of which are boxed. I shop mainly in brick and mortar stores or at the flea market. That allows me a great deal of leeway in getting single games, albeit at the cost of money and patience. I did get one lot that had a bunch of dupe 7800 titles in it (compared to my collection anyway), and I sent that one to Shawn last year (or was it early this year...I've slept since then). Currently I have a dozen or less dupes. I keep them traded off. I've got Berzerk (go figure), Megamania, Dragster, Yars' Revenge, Seaqest, Astroblast, 7800 Ms Pac Man, and three Saturn dupes. Funny thin gis that I don't go shopping or ebaying specifically for 2600 games, and I still have almost 200 of them. nester #19 Posted August 13, 2006 Wow, I used to be real proud of my collection before I discovered this place. I didn't know anybody in the world who had more Atari games than me. Now I'm starting to feel like my collection's just starting to get up into the respectable range. Congradulations on hitting 300. You give us all hope for the future. Crazy Climber #20 Posted August 13, 2006 Yeah I guess whatever works. I'm not too concerned about labels and such, I just don't really need a 6th copy of Yar's Revenge! I'm starting to agree with this. I easily broke 300 carts after I started collecting label variations and I think I might start weeding out my duplicates for some of them. Like you said I don't really need 6 copy's of Yars. BTW - I still do not own Combat, I rarely buy large lots and I refuse to pay over a dollar for this game. So far everytime I see it for sale it's more than a buck so I guess I'll keep waiting... Maybe I should trade someone for it
Cybergoth #21 Posted August 13, 2006 From over 300 I'm down to less than 50 by now, only keeping those I really still enjoy these days

+RandomPerson #24 Posted August 14, 2006 From over 300 I'm down to less than 50 by now, only keeping those I really still enjoy these days Ditto, I had about 5 systems and 500 or so carts. It was just silly IMO. Now I have what I want to play and thats it. Not one of my games goes without frequent play. If it was a game that I never played it was sold or traded off.
