NovaXpress #1 Posted August 14, 2006 They're an industry joke. They're just days away from being delisted on NASDAQ. Finacial analysts are predicting even lower-than-expected results over FY07. Bruno must be suffering stress ulcers at this point. So what does Atari do in this hour of crisis? How do they recover from the humiliations of Dungeons and Dragons Online and Mark Ecko? PAT SAJAK! Atari and Pat Sajak Announce Partnership "Pat Sajak is a household name and one of America's most beloved game show hosts," said Nique Fajors, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Atari, Inc. "Pat also knows how to create fun and accessible gaming entertainment, and Pat Sajak's Lucky Letters is an example of this. It is an easy-to-use yet challenging-to-master pastime for those who have always wanted to be a contestant on a game show. All audiences will quickly become hooked on this clever, fast-paced word game." That's a corker. But the best Atari quote of the week (about Driv3r): A half-baked product that was pushed out the door for revenue reasons. Unlike the Pat Sajak game, no doubt. n8littlefield #2 Posted August 14, 2006 While I don't understand why they would spend the $$ for a partnership with Pat Sajak, I can definately see why they would be doing a game like this one. Between the Popcap game type of stuff on the PC and the Brain games on the DS, puzzle games that can be easily picked up and played by older gamers has become a huge market. Seems really odd they would bother spending money for a spokesman like that though.
Pixelboy #3 Posted August 14, 2006 Seems really odd they would bother spending money for a spokesman like that though. Pat Sajak (or his agent for that matter) probably doesn't know squat about Atari except for the fact that it's been around for decades (does he know about Infogrammes? Somehow I doubt it). He's obviously just in it for the money, and he'll probably get payed even if it doesn't make any difference in Atari's destiny (or should I say "demise"?). shadow460 #4 Posted August 14, 2006 The Atari name will get sold to someone else so they can drag it through the mud yet again. It is time to lay the name to rest and let it be remembered for its achievements instead of its failures. Perhaps we should all chip in a buck or two and buy the name for this site? Anyway, does this mean that atari is fine now that it technically isnt in financial trouble as it is owned by another company?

That, or sell it to a good hardware company who can bring a new Atari console into being.
NovaXpress #7 Posted August 14, 2006 Atari is not owned by Infogrames. They are two separate entities which share management. For the love of God, lets have no ridiculous "let's buy Atari" and "new Atari console" talk.
jbanes #8 Posted August 14, 2006 For the love of God, lets have no ridiculous "let's buy Atari" and "new Atari console" talk. I've got a brilliant idea! Let's buy Atari and make a new Atari console! After all, the name can't be worth more than, oh, 10 or 12 dollars these days! I've got 3 cents and some pocket lint to get this started.
figgler #9 Posted August 14, 2006 They're making a new Atari console? WTF?
shadow460 #10 Posted August 14, 2006 I think the name should be laid to rest, personally. Atari was good while it lasted, and it is mega fun to play their consoles, but there is no sense in the name being passed from big company to big company getting crapped and peed on by gamers every few years. *goes to clean up another Fuji symbol*
n8littlefield #11 Posted August 14, 2006 I actually wouldn't mind it if Atari went to being a budget publisher of short, quick pick up and play games. I mean, that's why I love my 2600 anyways is for quick rounds of arcade titles. If there were a series of low priced, fun arcade/puzzle games for the DS with their name attached to it, I wouldn't be opposed to that.
AtariJr #12 Posted August 14, 2006 quick Q. They have DBZ for the Wii at launch, and it looks like the game is in really good shape. How is a company that is so far in the hole making such a nice game, they must have funding from SOMEWHERE to make these games right?
