Atari Master #1 Posted August 15, 2006 So I went on ebay to see if the old NES top loaders were still as expensive as the last time I had looked (which was like 2 years ago). Anyway, lo and behold there are a ton of new Top Loader NES systems made by these companies I've never heard of. What the hell happened? Where did this come from? Also, are they good? They look like they could definately save me some space on my entertainment center. http://search.ebay.com/NES-Top-Loader_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8
+Psionic #2 Posted August 15, 2006 From what I've heard, most of them are junk. But I wouldn't buy a knockoff even if they were good, personally.
Atari Master #3 Posted August 15, 2006 A friend of mine told me that the patent on the NES expired, so companies are making their own NES systems.

Search the forums for 'Generation Nex' ' messiah' and 'yobo' and you should find a bunch of threads. here are my observations on the NEX/Yobo
Atari Master #5 Posted August 15, 2006 Hmm, that sucks if they can't play them all. Nintendo should make an official NES remake, and blow those other ones out of the water.

Yes, the incompatibilities range from not noticeable to annoying to deal breaker depending on what you use it for. I think the clones are neat and for many people would be fine - but yeah the ultimate would be a real remake from Nintendo.
shadow460 #7 Posted August 15, 2006 Why buy a $30 NES clone when you can get the real deal in a thrift for $10?
Atari Master #8 Posted August 15, 2006 Why buy a $30 NES clone when you can get the real deal in a thrift for $10? The real deal you have to clean over and over and over and over. Not to mention fight to get it to play a game.
JB #9 Posted August 15, 2006 A friend of mine told me that the patent on the NES expired, so companies are making their own NES systems. The patents expired ages ago. Of course, the Famiclones started before the patents expired.
Cheese007 #10 Posted August 17, 2006 Most clones are crap, but I've heard this one is pretty good. http://cgi.ebay.com/TOP-LOADING-LOADER-XB-...1QQcmdZViewItem Yes, the controllers have an LED in them that lights up like the console.
shep #11 Posted August 18, 2006 I really enjoy my Yobo, it plays all of my games fine aside from slight deeper sounds.
Classic Pac #12 Posted August 18, 2006 Some one sent me this link to an Asian site with NES clones, many even include built in games.

Yeah, general consensus seems to be that if you're going the clone route - the Yobo is the way to go. No problems with mine, other than the typical NOAC stuff
