Dusk2600 #76 Posted August 22, 2006 (edited) I'd give my left nut for a NGPC to PSP control mod. I finally played Gradius collection and it's (to me) almost unplayable. The d-pad isn't responsive enough, and the analog nub is too unreliable. Bewteen the awesome arcade collections and emulators, the PSP really needs a decent d-pad. I'm aware of the capcom thing you stick on the d pad, but would rather have the nice clicky stick from the ngpc. I loved NGPC, but i got burned out on the titles for it. Shannon #77 Posted August 22, 2006 For classix systems I\'d have to go with the lynx. Modern either GBA SP or DS. GP2X all the way!!!

Broonale #79 Posted September 12, 2006 I will stand by my native 1.5 PSP. Right now I can play over: 200 Genesis (perfect) 700 NES (perfect) 500 SNES (near perfect and wifi multiplayer) 500 2600 (perfect) 8 N64 (very good, but no sound yet) 150 MAME (good to great) 8 CPS1 (awesome) 3 CPS2 (very good) 35 GBA (suprisingly great) 15 GBC (boring and perfect) Locoroco (perfect euro ISO) Watch Nightmare before Christmas from memory stick DVD rip Listen to the entire Squirrel Nut Zippers discography View dozens of photos These are all on the 4gb memstick right now. I also can load up several of dozens of PSP UMD ISO's from my PC so battery life will be even better and can overclock the CPU for even smoother graphics. I can also play any PSP game via Devhook regaurdless of it's firmware requirement. If you want a retro handheld chosen, I pick my Game Gear w/TV tuner. NE146 #81 Posted September 12, 2006 500 2600 (perfect) You're either smoking crack or have some new 2600 emulator on the PSP I don't know about! Because there's no way we're talking about the same 2600 emulator that I know of, as the one that's around is pretty obviously far from perfect 35 GBA (suprisingly great) ooh! Now that's something I haven't checked out in a little while. Last I saw it was friggin scratchy sound and not to mention slow. I'll have to dive back in and see:D

Battlezone looks great on PSP. For GBA use gpSP. DCemu has links to it. There are a couple versions now for speed or compatibility. Some roms crash, but it is light years ahead of PSVBA. You will need a gba bios.
BydoEmpire #83 Posted September 13, 2006 I almost hate to say it, since it's so new, but I have to go with the DS. I've owned several handhelds, but I've never put anywhere near the time into any of them as I've put into the DS. Plus, it plays GBA games (with a great screen), so it's almost perfect. Battlezone looks great on PSP. Well tell me what emulator you are using. Is it Stella PSP v0.2? If so it's based on Stella 1.4.2 which is an old version of Stella that has issues especially in the area of sound. We're all hoping the lastest Stella or Z26 gets ported sometime. I mean, the psp has some nice emus but the current 2600 one is pretty far from perfect And that's noticeable on almost all of the 1700 or so 2600 roms I have on my 4 gigger (ok most are dupes.. but hey, it's only about 10 megs total ). If you aren't using Stella psp v0.2 then I REALLY need to catch up. Think I'll start a-looking now for that gpsp
Broonale #85 Posted September 13, 2006 GBA on PSP: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=35287 You have to get the bios and name it properly. I guess I am just easy to please when it comes to 2600
privateers69 #86 Posted September 13, 2006 Anyone think to add benheck.com to this list? Being that we have an ongoing thread of his latest creation Xbox 360p laptop. Some nifty handhelds on his site.
EricDeLee #87 Posted September 13, 2006 You single-camp DS dufuses bashing the PSP get a clue. The PSP rocks No one bashed the PSP - we simply said the library is too shallow compared to other handhelds to declare it the best of all time. It's a nice system, but it simply doesn't deserve that title yet. Read the actual posts - most people simply think that the ginormous GBA/GBC/GB library and the great GBASP2 deserve the title at this time. If you want me to bash the PSP, I'm more than willing to - but I think this thread has been quite kind to it. I'm not sure if the library can be considered shallow anymore. There are a ton of great games for the PSP. On top of that... you can emulate anything (sort of). What's not to like?!
cyberfluxor #88 Posted September 13, 2006 I really love the DS and all its features plus the games have lots of gameplay, supurb multi-player titles, and the lite has great back light and portability. The downside about it is due to how it's brand new and still going strong in production so it'd be bias to consider it the best. But this also means we need to define the best in personal opinions, not which handheld performed best in the marketplace. So, with that said, with my personal knowledge with what I've played the Gameboy Color is my favorite with a wide selection of nice games. There are a lot of horrible games on the system but it outwieghs the selection of good ones. The only problem I have is the prices of some games because I'm a cheap dude. A very laxed system to collect for in my opinion is the Game Gear. Most every game is under $10, hard to find complete though, and it's a nice handheld to play around the house with a power plug. It really uses up those batteries compaired to other handhelds.
ninjarabbit #89 Posted September 14, 2006 My vote is for the DS, it has single handedly revived my interest in video games and it has easily gotten more play time than any of the other handhelds I've owned mostly due to Animal Crossing and Advance Wars. Yes the GB, GBC, and GBA all have huge libraries but in all honestly how many of those games are really worth playing. All those systems are on par with the 2600, PS1, and PS2 for shovelware and any worthwhile GBA game can be played on the DS.
EmOneGarand #90 Posted September 15, 2006 The best Hand Held ever is the Neo Geo Pocket Color, only handheld up until the PSP that could do a portable fighting game justice. If your on a very tight budget (20-30 for System and 13 games) and really into the retro scene check out the Timetop Gameking lol.. it's a like a middle tier between an LCD game and the original Gameboy and this one guy shows you how to build a dev cart hah hah, to fit the bill of this topic it's the best of HK Greymarket gaming handhelds lol.. probly the only "legitimate" piece of gaming hardware to come from China. I have to say that I'm really fading on this system due to its lack of a good native library. All of the games that I play on it most often -- and with the notable exception of GTA:LCS -- were released at, or just after, the system's launch, and I'm still waiting for a killer app. I'm ashamed to admit that I've really started to enjoy the PSP for its UMD feature, especially now that discontinued movies are selling so cheaply.
