Starcat Developments Games available again!

Recommended Posts

Hi folks!

Due to many requests I got in the past few weeks, I finally decided to offer the Starcat Developments Jag games again. You can order them on my site. Visit the multimedia section. There you can find information, screenshots, movies and so on about "Ocean Depths" and "JagMIND:Bomb Squad". On top of the information pages you also find a BUY NOW link, if you are interested. Payment is done with paypal.

Starcat's Place of Silence

Enjoy and long live the Jaguar!

Regards, Lars.

Out of curiosity, what is the status of Eerievale for the Jag bro? I have to ask as I have been curiious on this especially since the Flash Cart is supposed to be right around the corner.

Hi!

Eerievale will still need some time. I also think that it might take some time to get used to the new hardware and take full advantage of the important features, so even after the CF cart is available it might take some time to do games for it. Although I certainly hope good librarys are provided that make it easy to get started. Good example is the Jag CD, even though the CD bios does everything you need for you, many developers have not yet had much success reading data from CD for example or playing audio or similar things. So even if the hardware is there and the libs and so on, it might take some time to get used to it. That's why I would personally prefer if the CF cart was available to developers before the initial release to the scene. That way they can test the librarys, prepare launch titles and still come up with comments and suggestions on how to improve the libs or make the docs and example for others, so it's easier to use for all.

Regards, Lars.

I am on the verge of buying the Ocean Depths CD and Double Feature from Songbird.

I need to know however, if the OD loading problems have ever been fixed like StarCat's Lost Treasure CD was.

I really want to buy this but I won't do it if I risk throwing $35 out the window. It would be better served buying something else.

JC, Double Feature is a Matteus game and ive heard of no reported faults. It was Matteus who fixed the other problem for Starcats "game" and is a quality product.

You might be best off just buying that one ;)

Matthias Domin, to be precise.

Sorry guys, I didn't post that clearly. I was referring to StarCat's Ocean Depths CD. I heard it had loading problems too. I didnt' mean to refer to Matthias' Double Feature.

I always thought his site was 'Matthias' Domain'. Rather I learn thanks to Palmer that his name is 'Domin' much to my chagrin. :P

Sorry Matthias.

The problem with the limited release of Lost Treasures was due to a bug, which happens on some jaguar units. It's unclear why this happens, as it doesn't seem to be related to region or model. On some it works, on some it hangs. This was fortunately fixed in the standard release.

Regarding Ocean Depths, it never had problems like that. The only problem of the past, was based on CDR media itself. And that problem is true for all CDR games. You simply need a well working drive that likes CDR and you're happy. :-)

Regards, Lars.

Well I have the JSII Extremist packs that work just fine on my CD player. Along with the BJL CD I burned on a FUJIFILM CD-R that works perfectly. So from the evidence my Jag CD has no problems whatsoever running CD-R.

I'll go ahead and go forward with the purchase. If the medium Ocean Depths is recorded onto is of good quality then there should be no problems.

Having said that JagCDs acan be quite odd and brand name/price is no guarantee of quality.

I've actually had far more reliable loading from unbranded CDRs than Memorex CDRs. Which was both a surprise and a disappointment.

Really? Is it just Memorex? Have you tried the Fujifilm?

That is kinda odd. Almost no one has reported any troubles with Gorf CD or The Jaguar II Extremists Packs etc. It may very well be a certain brand of CD-R that doesn't get along with the JagCD player. *shrug*

Speaking of CDRs and Jag CD. Did someone manage to get the Native image work?

I burned two CDRs but both did not work.

I have not tried enough brands yet to know for sure which are best.

Imation seems to have been OK on my test CDs, and the unbranded ones i picked up at a discount store.
