What should I use to clean the contacts on my carts?

Recommended Posts

Well, I know you have to use rubbing alcohol, but at the CVS near me they had 70% Isopropyl and 91% Isopropyl. What one should I get? :ponder:

Oh, I went on the AA How To thing here and it says to use rubbing alcohol and q-tips.

I guess there's more than one way. Whatever works for you.

I use CONTACT cleaner ,which has NO WATER,and is more expensive, but ALOT better for electronics, and sponge tip sticks, which leave no residue like Q-TIPS,but I'm fussy. You can get the sponge tips at any pharmacy, anyway ,do whatever works for you.

Everclear and q-tips to clean up after the eraser that I use. It rocks.

The Everclear is to get rid of the aftertaste from chewing on the eraser? :)

I use 92% isopropyl and Q-tips... then let 'em dry for a few hours (or days, if I'm feeling lazy) before playing.

If I've just bought a big load of carts and I'm going through testing them, I'll use one end of the Q-tip to wipe each cart edge with alcohol and the other end to dry it, so I can test it out without waiting. If I'm out of Q-tips, I'll tear up an old T-shirt.

Whoever said to use contact cleaner, that sounds like a good idea. If you squirt a lot of it on a cart, then plug it in the console and remove a few times, it'd clean the console too... I guess you'd need the expensive kind that doesn't leave a residue.

Liquid Sky told me he uses his polident tablets to clean them.

You have to use a glass big enough to get the whole cart in though :)

rubbing alcohol. thats what i use. with a few q-tips.

but how much water is in rubbing alcohol (if any)?

should be little, because it does dissolve right? :ponder:

a pencil eraser works? Wouldn't that leave the eraser still

in the game somewhat? rubber ? hnmnm.

lots of ideas posted here.

I know for NES.. I ALWAYS use alcohol cottom swabs for games.

Its also good to get a System cleaner also.

NES is a shock if they even work after a year without cleaning it.

Then the blowing into the games starts, but that never works

after a while. Only kills the game collection with dryed spit.

Never blow into a video game. :P
