vdub_bobby #26 Posted August 28, 2006 We've had this discussion before-- No 2600 Robotron? My opinion-- it could be done using playfield pixels as Grunts (they moved chunky in the arcade game too), then use multiplexed sprites for everything else. I used to have a mockup of what this might look like, but I seem to have misplaced it. The problem, of course, is that it is hard as heck to multiplex sprites and missiles while simultaneously drawing a fullscreen asymmetrical playfield. ZylonBane #27 Posted August 28, 2006 Only if you don't want blank gaps in the playfield. That wouldn't be a concern here.
Rik #28 Posted August 28, 2006 Now, I am clearly aware that any attempt at Robotron 2084 on the VCS would most likely be called Flickertron. However, I am curious as to why we never saw a version of this game on the 2600? Was it released to near the crash years? It certainly couldn't have been too complex to do, that would neve rhave stopped them. Anyone know? -Ray [/Yes,and thank god for that!dont need another flicker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! vdub_bobby #29 Posted August 28, 2006 Only if you don't want blank gaps in the playfield. That wouldn't be a concern here. It's still pretty difficult. Just finding the time to draw both players, both missiles, and a full asym playfield is tricky. Not that it couldn't be done...
