MAME - Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Mega Play) problem

While testing Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Mega Play version) on MAME, 1 player mode works fine but 2 player has only one level that works and thats the special stage level. The other 3 just turn black and thats it. Is it something i need to use or is because that part hasn't been emulated properley?

It's probably lack of interlace emulation - the console version uses interlace in 2P, and so it would stand to reason that the MP version would be the same.
