pocketmego #1 Posted August 25, 2006 (edited) This is the Sega Genesis Arcade Power Stick... It has a a built in perfectly molded hand rest to the left of the stick, which is almost perfect arcade size and shape. It has built in megafire (with adjustable speed), and it rests compfortably weighted on any table or surface with no unecessary movement during play. It is without question ne of the finest and ergonomically perfect home gaming joysticks ever constructed. I got this as a Christmas gift and hated using it for my Genesis. It never seemed right. But, I was young and stupid at the time. Recently, I found mine in storage and used it on my Atari 2600. it is the finest controller I have ever used for the 2600 and I will probably hunt down an extra one just in case this one breaks. Or to have one for port #2. Sega started life as a an arcade company, they KNOW how to make Arcade sticks. This is something every 2600 owner NEEDS. If you can find one, you should. You'll love every moment with it and if your like me, you'll find some extra gameplay succes with it as well. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!! Oh and the fire button is "B". -Ray Edited August 25, 2006 by pocketmego
jferio #2 Posted August 25, 2006 I own two of these myself... and one of the six-button model. Well worth the investment for me, since I prefer sticks over pads. That they work on my Atari equipment is an added bonus.
shadow460 #3 Posted August 25, 2006 I'm still sold on the CX-40B and the Pro Line. They aren't miracle controllers, but they get the job done with little discomfort.
Urchlay #4 Posted August 26, 2006 Does it come in a right-handed model? (I mean, with the stick on the right and the buttons on the left, like a regular 2600 stick. Sega would probably have called it a left-handed model...) Do you know whether it uses leaf springs? I've been looking for a good 2600/7800 stick that uses leaf springs, other than the Wico ones (which I love, would just like to try something else). I am pretty sure this was the only version Sega made. Sega much like Nintendo and many others seemed to forget about the Left handed player in those later years of home gaming. I'm not a tech, guy so I don't have the foggiest about Leaf Springs. But, it feels and moves very much like my Wicco if that helps. -Ray
Inky #6 Posted August 26, 2006 You know what joystick I'd like to mod for the 2600? this one: Its for the VSmile educational video game system. We have one, and the kids love it. THe joystick feels pretty solid. The nice thing, is that on the bottom is a switch that turns it from a right handed stick, to a left handed one. The main problem with it, is that it has a PS/2 connector (like a stardard mouse or keyboard for your PC)

But it too was setup with the controller on the left & buttons on right. Sega did however make a controller for their Master system that used right hand joystick & left hand fire buttons. I forget what it's called, maybe the sports pad? I personally didn't like it though. I do like the Arcade power sticks though, they are great controllers! Urchlay #8 Posted August 26, 2006 You know what joystick I'd like to mod for the 2600? this one: That... is a BIG red button The nice thing, is that on the bottom is a switch that turns it from a right handed stick, to a left handed one. So which is which? To me, the Sega stick is left-handed, and Atari sticks are right-handed... seems natural you'd use your dominant hand for the stick and your off hand for the buttons. Sega and Nintendo apparently don't agree with me, though. The main problem with it, is that it has a PS/2 connector (like a stardard mouse or keyboard for your PC) Does it act as a standard keyboard, with the stick for arrow keys and the buttons for Enter, Escape, etc? Would make a good controller for emulators as-is, in that case.
