Disturbing Centipede Commercial

Recommended Posts

Here is a creepy ass centipede commercial I found...

I'm not sure it makes the game seem all that appealing and any kid watching this at the time, probably wouldn't have been too compfortable with it.

I thougth it was kind of stupid! But like Chef Ramsey from Hells Kitchen said, "If they scare you, your not going to forget". Maybe thats why Atari did that commercial, trying to scare the kids a little so they wouldnt forget the title of the new game Atari put out!

Interesting, that quote is, Yes Chef !

YouTube has a whole truckload of atari commericals. :)

Centipede is the usual "80s go through the TV supernatural...happening"

Seen many things like that before hehe. Just not in real life ;)

If that's the Centipede commercial I'm thinking about... It makes me ill to watch it! That thing is just nasty ugly!

At least the commerical's Centipede World War premise is a sight better than the actual "plot" behind the game. I mean, would you rather have a commerical with Fairy Gnomes waving their "magic wands" to turn the garden invaders (the Centipede segments) into mushrooms? :woozy:

:P

I like that Give Me Everything commercial, move over to the left and then scroll down in the little window and click on it!

The Centipede ad is brilliant. Fun and a great sales message.

Buy our game and impress your friends by turning into a hideous mutant.

also available on the 5200.

I don't remember any commercials as freaky as the Centipede and Joust ads. My child-brain of the 80s must've suppressed them to avoid mental trauma.

Well, I never thought I'd say it, but my opinion of Atari marketing has actually improved somewhat after seeing this (and that freaky Joust ad, too). Brilliant!

We really need more commercials like this today, or at least more of whatever hallucinogenic drugs inspired them.

I'm pretty sure the Joust ad was like that Big Budget Computer animated "What Wil We Thinkof Next" ad. Meaning it aired on movie screens before it ever aired (if it ever aired) on TV. It's a bit to long to have been a regular commercial. Unless it aired durring the Superbowl or something.

As someone who has actual centipedes in their apartment, that commercial gave me the heebies and the jeebies.

Aren't they wonderful?

That's great! I don't remember that one - it does make me want to play Centipede though.

I remember the radio spot when Centipede came out.... "Centipede is from Atari, and it's the one to get!!"

I went and got it. ;)

I tend to ignore that comic that came with the game. I don't buy into the idea behind it because of the arcade game. In the arcade version it's clearly some kind of vehicle or cannon you are piloting. I don't think Ed Logg was all about Fairey Gnomes and te like...

:D
