The US National Video Game Team Does Exist...

Recommended Posts

Remember that bizare 7800 commercial featuring that guy from the US national Video Game Team...

I always assumed this was some joke Atari made up, but apparently this was not the only place these jokers appeared.

Here is an article all about them...

Yeah they were in all the early issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly (if you can remember back that far) :P Didn't they do the reviews on them as well?

On top of those horrible videos, they also would endorse any product that was desperate enough to pay them. They not only endorsed the 7800 against the NES/SMS, but I noticed recently that they also gave an endorsement for the "Freedom Stick" - an infrared joystick for the NES, 7800, SMS, and C64. I had one, and it broke the first time I threw it on the carpet.

I had all three of these videotapes back in the day. I bought them atAmes department store. I think one of them had extra blank space on the end so I used it to record some videogame endings I did along with parts of an episode of Video Power. HA! what a dork.

Wasn't Donn Nauert the one famous for doing that 4 word review of a game that was simply "Just another karate game?"

The year was 1989, and the game was Flying Dragon. Donn Nauert had a review due for Electronic Gaming Monthly #2. The review was, "Just another karate game." And so the legend was born, and it continues to live on in infamy...

(In case you missed it, that was a rather melodramatic way of saying: Yes. That was him. :))
