Everyone throws these away, but I've been collecting them. Acquiring from other states is a definite chore so I'm asking for anyone's help here. If you don't buy scratch off lottery tickets, can you ask family and friends. The more the better. I'd be willing to reimburse shipping. Please contact me if you're willing to help. Thanks. To me, the lottery is just an excuse to donate a dollar to the Board of Education(here in NJ, that's where the money goes to). I'm not trying to be bitchy or anything, it's just a thought. Some people think they're cool. After all, they've usually got interesting artwork, varying rules, and other features that can make them attractive. My wife collects card calendars (as in the credit card sized handouts with a picture or logo on one side, and a year-long calendar on the other), and my father in law made a bit of money by selling Russian sugar packets on eBay. Diggs, you get any yet? I live close to you Blaze, probably 20 minutes away. As for your question, there are many reasons why someone will want to collect them. 1. They are colorful and artistic like someone said. 2. Some feature key characters, cartoons, tv shows, etc, so there is intrinsic value on that basis. 3. They are available for only 1 year, so there is a historic value there. 4. They are limited in that particular state or country, making them hard to acquire around the world. 5. No one saves them, making them extremely scarce. 6. There are collections of some of the weirdest items, bottle caps, coasters, casino chips, and many other items most people would deem worthless. 7. I'm a trendsetter. I take initiative in doing things first, or doing things right. I can't say many will follow me here, but check out Ebay for losing lottery tickets. There are some on there. In fact I'm bidding on some. hehe Someone mentioned how AOL disks and CDs are now collectible. They were free and people are paying money for them. Not much, but again, most people used them as coasters, made art from them, or threw them away. So there's a collector for everything out there. And if it ever becomes somewhat collectible, I'll be the first to write a price and information guide on the subject. Out of all these, I pulled in $47. That's a $26 profit since yesterday. Tomorrow I get more with some of my winnings. This hobby is getting more fun by the minute. My lucky penny seems to help. Very surprising, but still up overall. Thanks to everyone who is sending or has sent me tickets already. One thing to note, I'd like to get mint tickets. Someone was willing to send me some tickets that were winners, but had to be holepunched a little to show they were paid out already. I'd prefer losers that are fully intact than winners that are marked, torn, or punched in some way. On a seperate note, I've spent a few bucks now on some cool scratch offs. I got some wildlife tickets from Alaska from 1991. 10 were various animals, and 10 were birds. They look real cool, so I finally am adding some vintage tickets to my collection. I'm also getting a nice variety from Mass. from another auction I won. Though I'm still trying to spend little to no money on this hobby. It turns out there is a lottery club, and they actually meet in conventions. They have a guide on I believe every scratch off printed from like 1970s and up for both USA and Canada. It turns out this is a hobby that only a handful of people are enjoying at this time. So it looks like I'm in on the ground floor. The collection has been growing. I decided I would stick with whatever people send me, any and all NJ tickets, which are probably a good 800-900 tickets plus multiples on ones with different prints. For example, the Pink Panther from this year turned out to have I believe 5 different pictures on it. And I'm also collecting themes. Most of the scratch offs fit perfectly in them, and they hold 100, so my collection will be nice and neat. A few bigger tickets I bought a larger album for. I'm also purchasing a list of supposedly every scratch off ever made in the US. I went to the NJ Lottery website and they actually list every scratch they've come out with since 1975. I made a database of them and am highlighting each ticket I acquire. I've decided to limit my purchases to just NJ tickets along with a select few from other states that I find interesting. Of course if I get things for free, I won't complain, but I don't have the room, time, or money to collect every ticket ever made. I believe it's over 20,000 of them. The total number of NJ tix to date probably runs in the 800-900 range. Though some of the tickets have different photos, so that number is about 1000 I'm guessing. I'm probably approaching 100 already. I don't think that's too bad. Once I join the club, I may be able to get alot more tickets for little to no money. I found that a small photo album is perfect for almost all the tickets. I'm also putting them in order by the print number. Since NJ started numbering, they've hit about 670, though they skip numbers for some reason and then later on release the earlier ones. There would be less of those than anything. Also the promotion signs that get posted in the stores. I have thought about collecting those too. Just out of curiosity, next time you win more than $10, look at the number in the lower right hand corner of the ticket. Please tell me what it is. I am working on a theory......I'll explain after I get a few examples. I don't by that many scratch offs anymore but I will start saving them. I have often thought of collecting them too! They really don't take up much space at all. But your right some of the artwork really is amazing. What does the lottery club you mentioned do? Good Luck! And be careful, sometimes people can really get hooked on that. A friend of mine won $5,000 and now she is just a plain 'lottery junkie' there is no doubt!
