jbanes #1 Posted September 6, 2006 ...and let me just say... Shuttle Orbiter rocks even harder on a real console! Even on an LCD, the flicker is hardly noticable. In addition, it's a LOT harder to get through the asteroid field on the real console. I don't know why, but it just feels faster than in emulation. If you have a chance to pick this baby up, go get it! BTW, in acquiring this rarity, I learned of another Avalon Hill gem. Wall Ball is a 3D rendition of Pong with amazing graphics! Given the scaling problems the 2600 experiences, I wouldn't have expected this to go over so well. Yet Avalon Hill pulled it off remarkably. It takes a few minutes to get used to the paddle's motion, but once you do it's kind of addicting. Sadly, I didn't manage to pick up the title, but it is great in emulation. I'm quickly coming to the opinion that Avalon Hill was a seriously underrated company. If they hadn't gotten to the market so late, I can't help but think that they would have been a serious competitor in the 2600 space.
+remowilliams #2 Posted September 6, 2006 I've got all of the Avalon Hill 2600 releases except for Out of Control. They are all very cool games I've also got a ton of AH boardgames, and many of their 'Microcomputer Games' releases for the A8/C64/AII. Great stuff! Well except maybe for Space Cowboy... jbanes #3 Posted September 6, 2006 I've got all of the Avalon Hill 2600 releases except for Out of Control. They are all very cool games What amazes me about the Avalon Hill programmers, is that they obviously never produced any 2600 games before or after their AV releases. Only one of the coders ever produced more than one title for the 2600! It's just amazing how well these games came out for a pack of programmers who had no prior experience with the console. Especially since the games are so much more than just another shooter with pretty graphics! (IMagic, I'm looking at you.) Incredible, simply incredible. the 5th ghost #4 Posted September 6, 2006 What's your best time so far? Congrats on getting this game, it is a very addictive one!
Deteacher #5 Posted September 6, 2006 The only AH title I've ever owned/played was London Blitz. It's one of my favorites. I'd love to try out some of the other titles (on a real console.) Emulation is nice...the Krokodile Cart will be even nicer, once I get one! But nothing beats a real cart in a real machine. Congrats on your purchase! Christophero Sly #6 Posted September 6, 2006 Ever since I found out this was a timed game, I've been wanting to pick this one up.
jbanes #7 Posted September 6, 2006 What's your best time so far? 11:38 on level 1. Congrats on getting this game, it is a very addictive one! Congrats on your purchase! Thanks, guys! Ever since I found out this was a timed game, I've been wanting to pick this one up. Shuttle Orbiter with Label Wear - $29.95 Shuttle Orbiter Mint - $49.95 Shuttle Orbiter BIN - $34.95 + $2.95SH (Overpriced if you ask me.) Good luck! Hopefully one of those links will help you acquire it. At the very least, they're a LOT less than the $80 BIN that was posted a few months back. Otherwise, keep an eye on eBay. Sometimes people sell them without knowing their value. You can get a copy as low as $20-$25 that way. Unfortunately, it's doubtful you'll get it for less than that unless you manage to find a copy at a flea market.
