Best Midway game on the VCS

Tough choice between Tapper and Solar Fox. In the end I choose Solar Fox as Tapper would have been made better by one thing. Being able to collect tips on the bar. Still a great game though.

Xenophobe might be the greatest Arcade port ever done for the 2600 and possibly the best game on the system.

Xenophobe was a good translation to the 2600 yes, but I just was never a fan of the title. Def. gotta go to Solar Fox.

I'd definitely have to say Wizard of Wor. Sure it may not have had all the mazes from the arcade game, but it still captured the essence of the gameplay in general.

For me it was between Tapper and Blueprint, as they were both good translations and very fun to play. However, I had to go with tapper. Its easil;y the best arcade translation on the 2600.

Man, this is a tough one. I really like Wizard of Wor, so I voted for that one, but alot of those choices are good.

However, I had to go with tapper. Its easily the best arcade translation on the 2600.

Tapper as I feel it's one of the best arcade ports to the 2600 and loads of fun to play.

Like Omegamatrix, I find it to be a tough choice between Solar Fox and Tapper, but in the end, I feel that Solar Fox just makes for a better 2600 game. While the programmer did an excellent job of replicating Tapper's gameplay, the loss of the cartoony graphic's that the 2600 could never do really hurts it. Solar Fox's more abstract graphics translate to the Atari much better. And while I know this is somewhat controversial, I personally feel that simplifying Solar Fox's gameplay actually makes the 2600 version superior to it's arcade parent.

The only ones I've played on that list are Gorf, Blueprint, Wizard of Wor, Solar Fox, and Omega Race.

 

Despite the differences I've read about with Solar Fox, I think it's the best there is. I did get a lot of play time out of Omega Race, though.

Rampage was inpressive too. I just think the graphics could have been a little better since it was an activision title.

Yes, but it's a port of a Midway game. None of the games listed are actually published by Midway, except for the SEGA titles (SEGA briefly merged with Midway). The title "Best Midway game on VCS" referrs to ports of Midway games, not just 2600 games made from Midway.

Tapper is a great game, but Wizard of Wor is my boy. I used to play Wizard all the time at the arcade as a kid and when this came out for Atari, I thought it was as good as it gets.

Wow - people like 2600 Rampage?! I must have missed something. Time to pop that one in again.... then again, I'm not that big of a fan of the arcade game....

 

Solar Fox for me, definitely. I've also heard it's not that faithful of a port of the arcade game, but it is an excellent game anyway.

This really is a tough choice. So many of those games were excellent ports/translations to the 2600! For me having to choose, I'd pick between Omega Race, Solar Fox, Tapper, and WoW. Which one I'll vote for, I guess you'll never know

I picked Tapper. Tapper is the best translated game IMO and one of my top personal favorite games.
