pocketmego #1 Posted September 12, 2006 Apparently someone made their own Atari 7800 commercial in 2003. The end of the video says it all... -Ray

Shawn #3 Posted September 12, 2006 If this could only have been on TV also: Bet it would have sold alot more units with this as the promo
jaybird3rd #4 Posted September 12, 2006 Well, even Atari admitted (in one of their ST ads) that they were a "terrible marketing company."

I did this a couple of years ago and moved it to YouTube because the video was sucking up my bandwidth on .Mac. It was a quick and dirty "first project" with iMovie that I may update someday. Almost Rice #6 Posted September 12, 2006 I did this a couple of years ago and moved it to YouTube because the video was sucking up my bandwidth on .Mac. It was a quick and dirty "first project" with iMovie that I may update someday. The only issue I see was that Klax was not available in 1988. Otherwise I really like the commercial. I miss the Equilizer.

Well you did a good job with it. You could have saved the 7800 had you been around in the day. -Ray

I miss the Equilizer. Yeah -- I took some liberties to say my other gripe more implicitly ... that the games shown should have been ready earlier than they were in many cases. Klax came out in the Millenium, but many of the other titles were games circa 1989-1991 as well.
Vic George 2K3 #9 Posted September 13, 2006 If this could only have been on TV also: Bet it would have sold alot more units with this as the promo I'm not sure they would have allowed for its obscenities to be run on broadcast TV back in the day. +doctorclu #10 Posted September 16, 2006 The 7800 video was very good. About the only thing that made an impression on me was Impossible Mission, other than that the graphics in the commercials back in that day were a bit dated. You know something though? The Jaguar had commercials that featured awesome graphics from Ultra Vortek, Doom, Tempest 2K with music similar to that and well, suffice to say, that did nothing more either. What does it take for effective advertising? Beating it into people's mind, and consistantly. Atari is cool, Atari cutting edge, etc. But was Atari? Let's be real, when the 7800 came out, Atari had ridden on the 2600 for 12 years by that point. I remember it was laughable... you could get the sucky Atari version, or the Coleco version. To matter the fact, Atari was the worst hardwise to all other systems, but it magically had a hold on the market. When the 5200 came out it was a half hearted attempt at a game system. A repackaged 400. When the 7800 came out, IT might have saved Atari when it was first made showing early on that the Atari had good thought, but good innovative technology. But instead, Atari was still known as being behind the times when the 7800 came out. Why not give someone with fresh ideas a chance? How about Nintendo? Atari is old... Th Lynx came out and I was in disbelief. I said no way it could be Atari. I found ST parts in thift stores, I thought about buying them (in 1991 when the ST was still big) but since I was unaware of the ST news, figured to buy a ST would be to visit the past. I needed to move forward. Saw a Jaguar in 1994 in a pawn shop, and again I was in disbelief. I was told "It is expensive and doesn't have many games". So I didn't buy it then. REPUTATION helps on advertising. Atari rode too long on the 2600... became known even then as the OLD system. And whatever magic that helped hold the market was also a curse because nothing else was ever seen as new, or something jump into. Atari after the 2600 became something that only fanatic Atari fans, and curious, would try.
