gulag picture radio #1 Posted September 16, 2006 Hi there. I'm supposed to do a review of the GP2X, but I bricked it (by having a blank SD card on booting it up). All I get is a rainbow of colored stripes on the screen. I've also got the dev board which I've read can be used to fix firmware, but I haven't been able to find a nice walkthrough ont he web. This is kind of a new world for me, so if there's a nice and clear walkthorugh online somewhere, I'd _really_ appreciate any help. I really need to get this bad boy working again! Since the GP2X is such a great handheld emulator, I thought that perhaps someone here might have fooled aorund with it enough to give me an idea of how to fix it! Thanks so much. JB #2 Posted September 16, 2006 (edited) http://www.distant-earth.com/gp2x/2005/11/...cked-gp2xs.html Is this useful? I don't have a GP2X. Dunno why I have information about it bookmarked... If that isn't useful, this might be... http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?showt...25615&st=15 Scroll down a bit. Has a link to a spanish message board, then a few posts later some english instructions(when you see bold text, you've hit directions). gulag picture radio #3 Posted September 16, 2006 I'd found this too. Unless I'm reading it wrong, that guy's method requires a custom cable. Though hen I think of it, the sintrcutions are probably the same whether you're using the dev board like I have, or a hacked cable. THanks!
Ze_ro #4 Posted September 16, 2006 This is probably a really really stupid question... but you do have charged batteries in the thing, right? I get that same rainbow effect when my batteries die on me. Also, once you do get it unbricked, make sure to install firmware 2.0 (or higher, if it's out by then). One of the things 2.0 fixes is that auto-bricking that you happened to stumble onto. I wish I could provide actual help, but I have nothing to add that the above links don't already say. --Zero
+remowilliams #5 Posted September 16, 2006 Hi there. I'm supposed to do a review of the GP2X, but I bricked it (by having a blank SD card on booting it up). All I get is a rainbow of colored stripes on the screen. You have a breakout box (BoB)? You should be able recover the GP2X with that and a EXT-EXT cable. Theres some info here. I do have a BoB, so if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation and doesn't have a way to fix it, let me know.
