hbomb #1 Posted September 21, 2006 I just bought my 7800 off ebay, boxed and virtually like new for $25. The Pole Position II Cartridge was still in its taped bubble wrap and the protective plastic was still over the controllers and main panel. I'm siked! Anyhow, my question is this. I hooked up the system and saw the red power light go on, then it went out. I thought "oh crap", an eBay lemon. I was just about to take it apart to look at the on/off switch, and happen to slightly hit the power supply connector and the unit turned on. So its just that my power supply connector is a little sensitive. After adjusting it a bit, its not really a big deal, but is this the case with all 7800 power connectors. There seems to be nothing wrong physically with it, its just a little sensitive due to its shallow design. On a side note, I don't know who designed the PS connector that goes into the 7800, but its a pretty weak design. Thanks!
CPUWIZ #2 Posted September 21, 2006 I'm siked! You're what? I would open the unit and re-solder the power socket. And yes, whoever designed that, needs to be shot.
Breakpack #3 Posted September 21, 2006 I'm siked! You're what? I would open the unit and re-solder the power socket. And yes, whoever designed that, needs to be shot. that sounds siking!
shadow460 #4 Posted September 21, 2006 Mine has the same problem. I just taped the RF and power wires together about six inches from the console. The RF wire kinda supports the power line and keeps it in place.
nathanallan #5 Posted September 22, 2006 I got a used one and the connector was already about broken, and then it broke . I'm not gonna try to fix it as-is, I'm gonna 'upgrade' and put a barrel connector in it. Maybe inline external. I'm not really a collector.
Mayhem #6 Posted September 22, 2006 The PAL 7800 power switch is a lot less sensitive. The NTSC 7800 I own also has a touch of the wobbles about it, got to be careful not to put much pressure on it otherwise it will turn off as well in one swift motion. shadow460 #7 Posted September 22, 2006 Why not use a 1/8 inch monaural plug instead of the barrel one? The 2600 Radio Control Joysticks have a pass through power system that uses the 1/8 inch plugs. If you're like me and thought the sticks were worth using, this would save you plugging another brick into your power strip.

Yep,I had the same problem the first time i hooked up my 7800,that puny little power plug wasnt plugged in all the way into the console, what a stupid, retarded, unnecessary design that is,it seems those idiot designers want to make things hard for us,that type of connector is the type you see on cordless phone batterys, and a headache to find an equivalent.
