Arkanoid Tournament - "I. O ERROR" ?

Recommended Posts

I just picked up my first cabinet. Rather stoked..

Unfortunately it comes up with this "I. O ERROR" as soon as I turn it on. Does anyone know what this means and perhaps how to fix it? I would really love to get this beautiful machine up and running. Thanks in advance!!

I'd start by disconnecting everything the board did not need to display video; for example, the coin counter, the fan and light (if it has them), the pot wiring for the spinner, etc. Then see if you fire up with the same message. I don't know the game but I do know hack arcade techs do crappy work. Period. I see 100 bad jobs for every one neat and tidy one. Sometimes a blob of solder will cross two wires and give a strange board error.

Forgot to mention: you might want to reseat each of the socketed chips on the board. If you want, just try pushing them each down further into the sockets. Some older boards used to actually push the chips out over time (had a Galaga once with the processor on the bottom of the machine!). Worth a try, I just fogot to mention it but it is an understood in arcade repair to do.

Might be worth you time. Certainly won't cost anything :)

I saw this on a newsgroup in response to a question about I/O Error on Arkanoid:

Check to see if maybe one of the coin switches are stuck.

If one is stuck, the game will lock up at power up with the

"I/O Error" message. If this is the case, clearing the stuck

coin switch should take care of your problem.

Hope this helps.
